ProsCompany has more initiatives directed at the employee that ever before.
Lots of new initiatives to improve the customer experience.
Fun working atmosphere
Lots of company growth initiatives

ConsIndustry is very much dictated by the economy
Still dealing with a poor reputation as an employer in OKC

Advice to Senior ManagementThough a lot has been done in OKC to improve Hertz's image as an employer, more needs to be done to change that image.

Oklahoma City, OK

Former Employee – worked at Hertz full-time for less than a year

ProsGym ($15/mo), cafeteria, 40% off rentals

Cons24/7 call center with everything based on seniority. A handful of people have been there 15+ years and continually get any decent shift. I get it, they earned it, good for them - but it basically means you're screwed forever.

Profits over people. Time between calls? They offer "VTO" (Voluntary Time Off) where you can leave without penalty but you don't get paid. This makes the calls back up to sometimes 100+ in queue and provide a horrible wait time for customers and a strenuous environment for employees. But hey, it saves them money!

Emphasis on sales over customer service. You can go out of your way to make someone's day, but unless you touched on all the supplementary equipment, affiliate offers and buzzwords, your call will be graded poorly. Just like if you have a crappy attitude and treat the customer like crap BUT mention all the above, you're gold.

Desk sharing. ICK! Call centers are germ-infested hell holes to begin with - then you add on top of that switching desks every day, never knowing who just sat where you are. The desks are dusty and crusty and dis-gust-ing. Once as a joke, I slapped the back of a chair and a big cloud of dust (read: dead skin cells among other things) appeared. Every chair is like that. So unsanitary - but don't get sick! Because once you're on an attendance warning, your hopes of ever moving up or switching departments is out the door.

The reservations you spend all day booking are NOT guaranteed. You're basically putting them on a hold in our system. It is NOT uncommon for a customer to show up to the Hertz counter only to have no vehicles available due to overbooking. Horrible business practice!

Advice to Senior ManagementTruly start focusing on customer service. Sales will come naturally if you allow your agents to infuse customer service into their calls. Kindness will win most people over, ESPECIALLY when those prices won't.

Hertz is trying to market itself as the premium brand now that it's bought out Dollar Thrifty. Good luck - with the poor customer service you provide, the unreliable fleet availability and constantly badgering customers for supplementary equipment and affiliate offers - you're going to need a lot more than "the brand" to carry you through.

Oklahoma City, OK

Current Employee – been working at Hertz full-time for more than a year

ProsChanging culture - shifting to a can-do attitude
Tons of different development opportunities
Shift towards a global focus and re-alignment
Great recognition for hard work

I feel like the company as a whole is changing and adapting to a new culture where people are working hard but there is tons of opportunities to learn new areas or functions and opportunities to advance. This is a great place for someone who is willing to keep learning and has a desire to move up.

ConsCurrently working on adapting the new culture shift with the employees that have been there a long time.

Former Employee – worked at Hertz full-time for more than 8 years

ProsMy team and the people. Some of the people I met are life-long friends. Working at Hertz was a great stepping stone for me in my career (until Frisorra took over).

ConsWhen Frisorra took over as CEO the entire work experience changed. I worked at the data center in OKC for all most 10 years and the last year and a half drove me to find another job. I was in constant fear of "layoffs" and survived the first one. Luckily I was underpaid and did my job so I was safe. Its a same to see a place like the datacenter go from 600+ employees to 175-200.

Frisorra outsourced lots of iT to India. Thanks for sending 300-400 OKC jobs overseas. What a bonehead.

Oklahoma City, OK

Current Employee – been working at Hertz full-time for more than 10 years

ProsGreat company and culture. Results oriented work environment. Opportunity for personal & professional development. Surrounded by talented management and support teams.

ConsRequires committment. You have to work hard at your own work/life balance ... don't let it get a way from you (it is manageable)

Advice to Senior ManagementRight now Hertz has several large initiatives that are competing for the same resources; if we are not careful there will be work/life balance issues.

ProsGood benefits and a potential for commission which varies based on department. On-site cafeteria and other amenities.

ConsEmployees cheat to get commissions by lying to the customers and/or omitting facts. Management does nothing when face with this problem.

Advice to Senior ManagementYou should take action when you know your employees are acting unethically.
