I worked at Hertz full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

As a manager you get to drive one of the company cars at all time including when you travel out of town. When you work off-airport the hours are good which is unusual in a retail environment. A lot of great people to work with and learn from.

    Cons

The majority of your time is spent managing fleet and moving cars around. The company overbooked a great deal which can be stressful for the branch staff. The company also runs many branches with Assistant Managers or Manager Trainees which puts a lot of extra work on them for a lot less pay and no car privilege. This is not a great structure and leads to numerous problems. The company also only hires those with college degrees for management positions which can be limiting in the hiring process, and there are numerous hoops to jump through for a promotion.

    Advice to Management

Take a look at the cons in my review. Something needs to be done about the structure, training, hiring, and promotion processes. Also you must train your future manager on more than just operations...provide them with leadership skills and training. These kids are clueless about leading others.

    Pros

Well-known company. Good employee benefits. Overall good work environment.

    Cons

Lots of changes resulting from merge with Dollar & Thrifty and the moving of headquarters and corporate employees to Estero, Florida

    Advice to Management

    Establish well -defined actions plans.

I worked at Hertz full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

The people are very friendly and teamwork is definitely at the forefront of everything they do. The take home cars for managers is a nice.

    Cons

There is a constant pressure for managers to dedicate every minute of their life to the company. A 60 hour work week is seems like the minimum. The car perk does not make up for the small wages and hours they require you to work. Decisions always come from the top down and seem knee jerk in nature. The company only seems to care about what the current situation is and never how it effects them in the long run.

I have been working at Hertz (More than a year)

    Pros

full time gets salary and benefits. usually can work

    Cons

You will eat, sleep, and breathe hertz. Will work 6 days a week if full time. Many times locations are under staffed. Very high turnover. Few people actually move up. will be intimidated with dismissal if numbers are not up to company standard.

    Advice to Management

do more to empower employees, do a better job of grooming talent rather then let them leave.

I worked at Hertz full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Awesome team in area, get to drive different cars, OT available I'd you need it, business operations experience gained

    Cons

Washing cars in 100+ degree heat all day in dress clothes, bonus structure always changing , now with promotions to ABM or BM, it is about 1/3 of what it used to be and you are doing twice the work since utilities were laid off. Not fair that portions if the bonus are calculated at an area level vs. a branch level. Same branches each month "carry" the area while other branches have consistently lower numbers yet still make a bonus.

    Advice to Management

Pay the managers and the ABMs for the hard work that they do. And if a branch isn't helping contribute to bonuses make that branch accountable . have a quicker hiring process without compromising quality to help with MASSIVE understaffing. Get cars over 40k miles permanently off the road ASAP

    I worked at Hertz full-time

    Pros

Get to interact with new people, gain knowledge of car repair business, always networking with existing and new accounts.

    Cons

Lots of hours, few resources given to truly excel at management, unattainable sales numbers.

    Advice to Management

Get back to providing true customer service, keep quality employees happy and give more opportunities for advancement.

I worked at Hertz as an intern

    Pros

Worked in different Hertz locations everyday. Employees are fun to get along with.

    Cons

Have to do everything from taking care of customers to parking cars, to transfering a car to another location, to handling transactions. After a couple of weeks, I was given locations to manage myself with same intern pay.

I have been working at Hertz full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Lots of hours and opportunities to make overtime, to really get fully immersed in a business, commission checks. Benefits and paid time off are a huge plus. Company car when you achieve Branch Manager status. Starting pay of $10/hr plus commission from day 1.

    Cons

Hours can be grueling if you aren't used to 50+ hours. Once you promote to Assistant Branch Manager you lose your commission and max pay for monthly branch bonus is about $300. Years past ABMs would get a branch bonus and commission with no limit. Feels like mistake agreeing to promotion.

    Advice to Management

Value your staff...incentives and extras should come with promotions...not the taking away of perks and incentives.

I have been working at Hertz (More than 8 years)

    Pros

I think Hertz provides a great work experience because you get exposed to multiple systems and work with a large number of data. One of things I appreciate about Hertz is having access to a gym facility on site .

    Cons

The culture is down because of the lack of team work mentality . Hertz needs more leaders and less bosses !

    Advice to Management

    Quality over quantity !!!
