I worked at Hertz full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

The pay and benefits are OK.

    Cons

Complete lack of leadership. Management acts as if it is completely helpless when resolving inter-departmental problems. Many in the Financial Department (including senior management ) do not know what they are doing, therefore they cannot train new comers. Complete lack of honesty and communication.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Be honest. Solve some problems

I have been working at Hertz

    Pros

Get to drive different cars everyday. Good employee discount.

    Cons

Management is terrible, zero communication. They don't support their employees at all. Long hours always on the hunt for cars. Do not honor your requested time off. Just overall awful company to work for. If you want to see how not to run a company this a good place to work.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Support your employees. Learn how to communicate and stop placing blame on individuals when it's the companies fault.

I worked at Hertz full-time (less than a year)

    Pros

Bonuses aren't too hard to meet, lots of overtime, lots of autonomy. Get to work with folks in the local area, make relationships with local business people and frequent travelers. Get to help out people get the best value for their money, and in emergency situations (car accidents with totaled vehicle, for instance.) Advancement is very doable and not terribly difficult if you hit your numbers consistently, however some of that is out of your control, especially depending on which location you are assigned to. (Some areas are very busy, some only seasonally). Great for self-motivated individuals with initiative.

    Cons

Little oversight and no support available for new hires. The job is not difficult, but it can be very stressful at times, especially when you find yourself at a small off-airport location with no location manager 90% of the time. Manpower seems to be an issue - there were periods, sometimes weeks at a time, when the entire city area was on a skeleton crew. Expect to be by yourself quite often if you aren't at a priority store location. Training was almost entirely done with online courses, while figuring things out as you went. Heavy emphasis on sales of course, but little actual know-how.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Have a proper staff of senior managers in your cities. An area manager can only do so much when half of the stores have no store manager and are being run by individuals with less than a year's experience in the company, or in the industry at all. It hurts morale, it hurts customer service, it hurts revenue overall.

The promotion structure is rigid for good reason, but is entirely based on sales figures, not leadership qualities. A good salesman/woman isn't necessarily going to be able to run a location the best. Also, when new hires are running half of the city fleet, its only going to cause problems with the area as a whole, not just in the low-volume locations. Sales potential can only grow if these people have support. Rotate them around - if your sales people are used to a certain customer base and volume all the time, they aren't getting the experience needed to succeed in this business - proper salesmanship comes from a well-rounded background of experience, you aren't born with it.

I worked at Hertz full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

They pay you for working. Work is fairly easy and they are generally flexible with you. It's really hard to be fired

    Cons

The company is driven by the board of directors. All that's on their minds is money today. They don't have a vision beyond a couple years. Too much bureaucratic bill that drives decision making. They are outsourcing huge chunks of the org.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

If you create a vision and support that with values you should try to follow those. The ceo is new but things will only get worse. The board will drive the company into the ground.

Management can be flexible and understanding and I dont not work on weekends. Set schedule, never varies

High turnover rate. Part time employees hardly receive hours and full time employees are forced to work more hours.

One of the worst companies to work for.

I have been working at Hertz

    Pros

Receive good sales and management training. Once promoted to a Branch Manager you are able to drive a company vehicle with free gas.

    Cons

Corporate office is unorganized and unprofessional. Company has major issues paying bonuses and explaining why they cannot either pay on time or the correct amount. They also cannot fully explain everything that is in the operating statement which leads employees to believe they are not being honest. Every company has issues, however when it comes to Hertz the organization and poor upper management makes life difficult for all employees to truly grow and be happy within the company.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Pay your management what they are suppose to be paid and pay them on time. Look past the actual numbers and try and understand why numbers are what they are, good or bad. You have an opportunity to overtake Enterprise, however your inability to take care of your employees and attention to the off air port business will keep you behind the eight ball every time
