    Challenging, fast-paced work environment

    Land Administration Analyst (Current Employee)
    Houston, TX

ProsExceptional co-workers who are great to work with; Very competitive pay and benefits, 9/80 work schedule available; Beautiful office environment in downtown Houston.

ConsCompany is still going through the growing pains of transforming its business model; Work load can be very heavy at times; There are many "special projects" and problems that need to be addressed but insufficient resources.

Good company, but being smaller than majors there are not as many advancement opportunities.

Global Supply Chain Specialist (Former Employee)

Prosgreat people, good senior management and a relaxed work environment.

ConsFlat organization that limits the number of advancement opportunities.

It's ok if you work in the right location

    General Manager (Former Employee)
    Boston, MA

ProsSometimes I got away with working 2 hours a day getting paid salary.

ConsIf you take over a store in rough shape plan on working all the time. Hard to hire the type of workers they want in certain areas

Warning to ex-employees. My old boss is replying to emails at Hess account pretending to me be. I left for another job.

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

ProsNone. It was a horrible place to work.

ConsClearly having my old boss pretending to be me and sending out emails with my name attached is causing a lot of problems for me since I left.

I was a former Sales Associate at Hess.

    Sales Associate (Former Employee)
    Etters, PA

ProsThey provided the shirts required for the uniform, and they were somewhat flexible with their scheduling.

ConsThe turnover rate was very high, which made it extremely difficult to work together as a team. I feel as though we were always training someone new. It was hard to keep people because the pay was low, and the job was rather "dead end". The expectations were high from management to maintain facilities, clean, stock shelves, & run the register all on your own. When you were not able to complete all of these tasks you were served with a write up.

Advice to Senior ManagementRather than sitting in the back at the desk all day, your associates could really use some help on the floor.

    Major turmoil

    Senior Treasury Analyst (Former Employee)
    New York, NY

ProsInteresting industry with strong E&P portfolio

Cons- Skewed management and strategic goals as a result of influence of John Hess and his personal relationships
    - Uncertain future and disorganization as a result of (probably justified) shareholder activism

Advice to Senior ManagementProper management starts at the top. Instead of being removed as President and continuing as CEO, John Hess should have been removed as CEO and continued as President. His personal interests are having major effects throughout the organization.

    It is a paycheck

    Store Manager (Current Employee)
    Tampa, FL

ProsGood pension, 401K will end though with the sale/spin off

ConsChaotic, disorganized. Promotion based on anything but merit. Not enough resources to operate the business at decent level.

Advice to Senior ManagementLook at what competitors are doing right. Stop coming up with programs that can only fail. New year, new idea that wastes money for no results.

I am a team player who provides guidance, instruction, direction, and leadership to the current IT team.

Service Delivery Team Lead (Current Employee)
    Houston, TX

ProsGrowing opportunities within Exploration and Production environment.

ConsCurrently the IT Management is moving towards outsourcing to external vendors.

Advice to Senior ManagementCreate a in-house core team and surround them by contractors if the business is moving towards outsourcing.

a public company run like a private, which is why its in its current state...

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)
    Woodbridge, NJ

Prosgreat industry; heritage of the brand; historically strong profits

Conssenior leadership has never had a clue. Drove decisions at the detail level with no strategy; put the wrong people into roles without experience and didn't walk the talk of holding people accountable

Advice to Senior ManagementGet your act together. Get rid of senior and mid mgt (including spun off businesses) and start holding the teams accountable
