Pros
The benefits are good, better than most companys. For the most part is a good company to work for, I enjoy it, and the customers we serve.
Cons
The hours you have to work by yourself and taking time off, as a manager, are the only things. Managing the small sites you have to work 6 to 7 hours by yourself each day and makes your day even longer, so getting your responsibilities completed means 12 to 13 hrs a day instead of the 10 hours. When taking time off, upper management only allows or wants you to use 15 to 20 hours a week or 3 to 4 hoursa day to cover your hours for vacation and holidays.
Pros
experience only, there are no other benefits or perks in working for hess
Cons
management is disillusioned into thinking all employees are expendable and replaceable. Hess is a top ten company not to work for
Pros
As an intern it was great to see the impact your work had on the company. Interns from all departments were given "real" and meaningful tasks. We were also given the opportunity to shadow people from other departments. Everyone was treated with the same level of respect regardless of job title. It was a friendly atmosphere and easy to get to know / interact with other people in the office.
Cons
The internship experience would have been enhanced with more balance between office and field work but overall, it was a fantastic and worthwhile experience.
Advice to Senior Management
Suggestion: For the next round of internships, it would be interesting to have the interns work in groups on a project aside from just working within their own department.
Pros
Benifets are normal, Pay is decent, Most are great people with lots of Integrity.
Cons
New York Executive Management outsources overseas, Office Space is horrible and all open air.. Only the Sr. Politicos recieve a closed office space. No accountability from managers, Not a popular choice in Houston Area - New York Culture clashes with Southern Oil Industry Attitudes.
Advice to Senior Management
Communicate with employees and ditch the Town Hall trash meetings.
Pros
excellent locations and areas for growth
Cons
locations afford growth in diverse setting
Advice to Senior Management
expand cross functional training for all employees
Pros
Very friendly, open atmosphere, positive atmosphere
Cons
The corporation is slightly disorganized in a few areas
Advice to Senior Management
None, management did great.
Pros
Pension, 401k
Working on new culture
Cons
Outsourced half the company
Must be yes person inorder to survive...no free thinkers allowed
Promotioms based solely on politics, not on ability.
Many middle managers are not competent and could not survive outside of Hess
Advice to Senior Management
Encourage employees to own the outcome, rather than owning their process
Pros
There are opportunities for advancement and you can end up making money if you wish to put forth the time and effort. Very structured and precise with policies. Easy way for someone to move up with no degree or experience.
Cons
Very little pay for the amount of work expected. Getting time off is a huge problem with this company. Expect you to put your job before everything for little pay. I was a college grad, knowing more about the industry as an assistant manger, than the Site Manager at that time. Overall very dissatisfied with the employee experience. The promotion program is very difficult to move up in because of company politics.
Advice to Senior Management
Pay your employees for their work well done and give promotions and/or raises to people who deserve it.
Pros
High growth period; very exciting. Optimistic workforce, very much a "can do" group of people. Good people who are dedicated.
Cons
High growth with little to no prioritization leading to motivated staff working excessively long hours. Process creeping into Hess. Some is good and badly needed, but there is a sense that process is displacing technical work required to make good decisions. Politics abounds. Too many empires being built. No "Hess Culture," rather an amalgamation of Chevron, BP, and Shell cultures,
Advice to Senior Management
Choose niche based on strength. Company cannot do everything.
Pros
You get benefit and also there is a medical coverage, plus you have vacation and they pay sum part of your college tuition.
Cons
Sometime there is a lot of crap that you have to go through. otherwise it is nice and can not complain
