    Pros

HP has great people and good benefits. The company promotes volunteerism and participating in the community activities. HP also has a tremendous amount of career opportunities due to the company size (~300K) employees and the breadth of it's portfolio.

    Cons

Unfortunately, annual salary increases are limited and it's pay for performance salary approach is less than desirable. Top rated employees that are low to mid-range of their salaries are not compensated at a level to match inflation.

    Advice to Management

Reward employees appropriately based on merit and contribution. Encourage promotion of junior level executives e.g., Managing Directors, before looking externally for the next vice-presidents.

    Pros

Solid industry reputation with tried and tested solutions. The company name, products and solutions speak for themselves.

    Cons

BIG company organizational challenges relational to roles and responsibilities. Sometimes marketing can put the vision ahead of the value proposition.

    Advice to Management

Senior field resources can provide a wealth of information, feedback and potential value that can't be derived just from Corporate.

    Pros

One of the world's most successful and recognizable corporations. Plenty of chances for promotional and lateral movement.

    Cons

Constant looking over shoulders waiting for news of impending layoffs

    Advice to Management

Return to the HP Way. It worked beautifully for 60 years.

    Pros

HP has a lot of resources if you take advantage of it. I worked for HP software and there are a lot of classes and online resources for your. For example, we had free access books24x7.
If you desire and work your way up into management, beyond Manager 2 level, they compensate well. For the average worker, don't expect any raises unless you are a top performer. HP has been cutting costs for many years now.

HP has fairly flexible work policies, eg. remote working if your job involves global groups and services. They are being more restrictive like most large companies now but seems still good.

It can be a great place to work if you find the right group in a product with growth.

    Cons

It's such a huge company, you will find it hard to bend any process. HR is very dominant over managers. You may also find yourself competing against different business units or spending a lot of time to get aligned.

    Advice to Management

HP values managers a lot and you get some special treatment. As I mentioned above, trying to promote or hire folks is difficult. HR and long complex policies can make your job really hard.

    Pros

Great benefits. Mobility to move to other positions.

    Cons

Senior management for the last seven years has been poor. Cannot get a grasp on expenses so they reduce workforce almost every quarter.

    Advice to Management

Keep your senior employees and not lay them off.
