I have been working at Hewlett-Packard full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Storage (Enterprise) has many connections with the Network business in HP and these interactive dependencies create opportunity for skill expansion and professional growth.

    Cons

HP's current senior management is attempting to thin out the older staff in favor of young resources because they are cheaper to maintain. This creates a negative environment and lack of mentoring resources. While the company can definitely benefit from infusion of fresh talent this "weeding out" trend has been seen in HP before and it ended up hurting the product and service delivery quality.

I have been working at Hewlett-Packard full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

    Has work life balance
Growth is depending on the team/job you are in.
I have been on different teams within, there are teams that will not allow you to grow because of the job requirements.
    Project management in general sucks
    Good work environment
    WFH allowed

    Cons

    Medical insurance is average
Stock buy program is 5% discount, which is usually break even when you sell on execution day because of the trading charges
    HP product discount sucks
You have to work using HP machines. Fast if you get the latest one or the dev machines but beware they run hot enough to boil water.
Pretty bad internal site for job management. Seems like it has been there for 20 yrs ago and has not been updated.

    I worked at Hewlett-Packard full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

The individual contributors at HP are by far some of the best in the industry. Compensation is on par with the average, though difficult to catapult your salary. It was suggested that if you leave and come back, then you have the opportunity to really make significantly more.

    Cons

Senior leadership has gone through some flux and one of the major concerns I saw was senior leadership would be brought in from other companies and they would bring their team with them. Problem with that is, causes way too much friction with current process and procedures and normally new blood never made any significant impact.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

You'll always hear, we need to get back to the "HP Way" and HP does. The value the company brought to the employees and the value the employees brought to the company were at it's highest levels and HP really was where you wanted to be. Now, not really sure.

I have been working at Hewlett-Packard full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

I've worked at HP for 34 years and have enjoyed almost every job. Starting as a janitor and then moving into manufacturing, HP encouraged me to pursue my education, as well as paying 100% of my college tuition and books. After graduating from SJSU the following are a series of jobs at HP: Commodity Buyer, Inside Sales Rep, Direct Marketing Rep, Account Manager, Program Manager, Operations Manager, Strategic Supply Chain & Development Mgr., Sales and Remarketing, and now US Marketing Mgr.. The company has changed over the years and I'm not sure if the same opportunities still exist.

    Cons

More changes with HP splitting once again. I've been asked to move from California to Houston, TX., otherwise I'll need to find another job. I've decided to stay in California and look internally and externally for new opportunities. What's great is that due to the split I was given 6 months to either find another job. If nothing is found HP will give me one week for every year of service. Not too bad.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Invent and delight customers. I sincerely wish HP the best and a long future.
