I worked at Hewlett-Packard full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

I enjoyed working at HP because of the people... A big company with the feel of a family environment. HP also offers the Work From Home (WFH), or Virtual Office programs which can be beneficial for Work Life Balance.

    Cons

Some of the challenges at HP are accepting lateral moves (instead of promotions into a new position), with no pay increase, and salary freezes for years. An added negative would be the reorganization that takes place every few months, along with work force reduction.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Care more about your employees and ensure their well-being, because they are really the foundation of the company's successful.

    Metrics hell causes massive stress.

I worked at Hewlett-Packard full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Great people, intelligent products, good reputation on certain products - not so much on others. Great presence in India but that is going to bite back should the instability in that region fall through. Green and work from home for certain positions are a great benefit.

    Cons

Micrometric-centric, FTS model is a joke. Top level management not in touch with much more than metrics, educational support very limited, very political per advancement and based more on metrics than people skills among others, salaries seem low in comparison to other companies, layoffs always looming to impose fear and the lower salaries. Mark Hurd taking that golden parachute ruined this company and current top mgmt is TOO diversified to run it economically/efficiently.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Loyalty to people over numbers is a must. Not all those that hit a rough spot in their life should be dispensable. Military contracts should be honored with a vengeance not thought of as a cash cow to be milked. Watch out for India based companies becoming security risks.

I worked at Hewlett-Packard full-time for more than a year

    Pros

They have some name recognition that might look good on a resume when you leave

    Cons

No innovation to speak of. A contempt for their employees and a a future strategy that looks at the market as it was five years ago.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Start living up to one of HP's old taglines - "Invent"

I have been working at Hewlett-Packard full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

HP has historically had and continues to value lots of flexibility in the work environment. Although done in fits and starts, the overall intent of the company to provide an equitable work environment is sound.

    Cons

HP has very rigid ideas around career management; if you don't want to follow a very prescribed path, you are left with few options.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Promote from within, particularly in the middle ranks. Develop long-term programs for developing women and minorities.

I worked at Hewlett-Packard full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Entry level sales roles are manageable. Lots of training. Good benefits. Good growth opportunities. Strong brand recognition.

    Cons

HP searching for its identity. Hope Meg really is the answer. Very complex company that has a lot of great people and products, but needs to get out of it's own way.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Pay your sales people what they are worth and your company will turnaround much faster. Talent seems to grow there, then leave for better pay and more rewarding challenges.

    Pros

    See above. Working remotely

    Cons

Benefits constantly stagnant or simply reduced. A shame

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stop trying to pay people the bare minimum so the company doesn't suffer years from now. Do something to keep the brightest and make it so people really WANT to work here.
