    I worked at Hewlett-Packard full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

Loved the training and tech exposure. Excellent guidance and career development potential. Challenging opportunities to excel.

    Cons

Unforgiving missed work policy. Had a three consecutive day missed work policy that I hit due to a service connected injury that had me immobile on the floor of my home for three days with a fourth day of recuperation. I got an automated phone call that I was no longer employed even though I called in every day and was a top performer. It didn't matter. That is a destructive policy and needs to be revisited.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Consider circumstances and be flexible when an employee misses work. Lost a great job at HP because of a service connected injury that had me out for four days.

    I worked at Hewlett-Packard

    Pros

Being unemployed for any length of time is a blow to our egos, but being back in the workforce may be just the confidence-booster needed to help find a new job in your field

    Cons

No surprise here. Survival jobs do not pay the big money that you may have been getting in your last job, so you will still need to make drastic cuts to your budget and lifestyle

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Please improve training to new hires

They do not keep their commitments to former employees (DEC)

I worked at Hewlett-Packard (more than 10 years)

    Pros

My medical insurance was provided as required for many years

    Cons

I enrolled in the HP provided United Healthcare Group Medicare advantage PPO plan in early November as required. I received a confirmation of enrollment in late November. The Plan I selected included prescription drugs plan. I received a letter yesterday from United Healthcare saying that HP would no longer fund prescription drugs and that I had to go get another Medicare plan D at a cost of approximately $40 per month. Medicare enrollment closed on December 7th. If HP cannot keep their commitments to former employees, can they be trusted to keep their warranty commitments to their customers or employees?

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    I have been working at Hewlett-Packard full-time

    Pros

Good salary; great people; good work/life balance

    Cons

They are laying people off in the 10's of 1000's right now and have laid off for better profit ratio ever since I started working there 12 years ago.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Be ready to let people go.

    I worked at Hewlett-Packard full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

I enjoyed working at HP because of the people... A big company with the feel of a family environment. HP also offers the Work From Home (WFH), or Virtual Office programs which can be beneficial for Work Life Balance.

    Cons

Some of the challenges at HP are accepting lateral moves (instead of promotions into a new position), with no pay increase, and salary freezes for years. An added negative would be the reorganization that takes place every few months, along with work force reduction.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Care more about your employees and ensure their well-being, because they are really the foundation of the company's successful.

    I worked at Hewlett-Packard full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

They have some name recognition that might look good on a resume when you leave

    Cons

No innovation to speak of. A contempt for their employees and a a future strategy that looks at the market as it was five years ago.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Start living up to one of HP's old taglines - "Invent"
