I have been working at Hewlett-Packard full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

The brand is fantastic but has had it's drop in popularity recently - still a Silicon Valley icon! Work/life balance is good and it doesn't have to be all hours if you don't want it to be. Personal growth has been great for me.

    Cons

Salary has been a little lower than I'd like but relatively OK. Strategy in several areas are a little suspicious.

I have been working at Hewlett-Packard full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Big, "proper" and pretty sturdy, good if you want to do a 9-to-5 job, where the processes are already created, documented and are easy to follow. Great library of training material. Also HP is a big player who can afford to sponsor, donate and support.

    Cons

Again, a Titanic of a company. Because of its vast size, changes take a long while to get fully embedded into the company, mindsets etc. Impersonal, no encouragement of creativity, no need to thrive, conquer, seek challenges... just stick to your desk, be vanilla and clock in the years of service. Bet your grandad used to work for HP back in the days!

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Give the stars a chance to shine, otherwise they WILL leave.

I have been working at Hewlett-Packard full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

If you can find the right niche, ideally a largish customer who always pays the invoice on time, with a lengthy contract and relatively easy work, you are able to travel, come an go as you please, your time is your own. Otherwise, you are a victim, instead of making the company a victim. Why, well they pillage the customers and staff alike with promises of all things tomorrow but then never deliver. Use them, instead of being used.

    Cons

They don't deserve the hard work and loyalty that some employees are still willing to give them. EDS employees in particular recognize this bullying management style and most are busy working on their Resumes and looking for other jobs. Those close to retirement are just hanging on.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Close the doors and turn off the lights.
