    Pros

Access to endless amounts of lab hardware, software licenses, and technical knowledge. You really can learn as much as you like here. Or, if you want to hide out and do no work (if that is your thing) you can do that here as well. As long as management has a positive perception of your work. Easy to shine as HP hires to the middle. The best people often leave for better opportunities.

    Cons

The HP external raise program. e.g. get hired somewhere else if you want a raise. Bureaucracy. And lazy coworkers. A lot of people get hired and hide out here.

    Advice to Management

Stop firing all the good people or inducing them to quit or laying them off. Start paying for talent. Start being a market leader and innovator with HP Labs instead of exclusively buying companies.

    Pros

Wonderful corporate culture which is meshed between all age and demographic of the company. Lots ahead with split.

    Cons

Change is completely constant at this company.

    Advice to Management

We can only be lean for so long

    Pros

Flexible, Challenging at times, good-pay and benefits. A lot of your professionals which makes the work environment a lot of fun. Opportunity to travel for meeting with customers and accounts.

    Cons

Over the last 5 years there has been a TON of 'restructuring'. It seems that every fall a round of lay-offs happens which can make job security a bit unnerving at times. If you are a performer and don't ruffle the feathers too much, you are generally pretty safe though.

    Advice to Management

    More transparency

    Cons

The pay could be better for the amount of revenue brought in.

    Advice to Management

You need to try to understand the processes and simplify things.

    Pros

Beautiful location, modern facilities. Ability to telecommute on occasion when necessary. Regular reviews for yearly salary increase based on performance. Managers were friendly, organized, and helpful albeit mores w non-technical concerns. Training in current technologies relative to position.

    Cons

-Pay wasn't very competitive -Seating and work areas for all staff (except Managers) are 'open' and do not offer any sort of barrier for noise. If someone is on the phone next to you, you are pretty much involved in the conversation as well whether you like it or not. -No logic to sectioned areas/groups so that you don't necessarily know what group is where in the building or who performs what functions. -Very little cross-team communication (except if they stand up and shout across the open work areas). -Found very few staff were responsive to appeals to discuss insight into methodologies and common practices at the non-managerial level. -Overall very cliquey, the seating attempts to nurture familiarity and cooperation but in the end in many cases simply proved annoying and bred resentment. -Terrible 'on-call' rotation and escalation process (there wasnt a clear escalation process).

    Advice to Management

Foster more mentoring to newer employees and those new to HP methodologies/processes/procedures. Develop Knowledge Bases that are more accurate or that are kept current. Clearly designate areas and identify staff functionality. Foster interaction between departments that often deal with issues on technologies that intersect.

    Pros

Do your job and your left alone...no micro management here with this company. Lots of freedom and your treated with respect.

    Cons

Many changes every 6-12 months and usually big ones...with all of the changes in the IT world now.

    Advice to Management

    none

    Pros

Large global company, opportunity to try different things without leaving the company.

    Cons

Too large for it's own good, good example of corporate greed, some managers are not manager material and shouldn't have been hired as managers, Quota is always going up regardless of previous sales success....

    Advice to Management

Turn back the clock about 10 years when you actually took care of sales rep's, managers, and support staff.
