    Pros

Do your job and your left alone...no micro management here with this company.
Lots of freedom and your treated with respect.

    Cons

Many changes every 6-12 months and usually big ones...with all of the changes in the IT world now.

    I worked at Hewlett-Packard

    Pros

Beautiful location, modern facilities. Ability to telecommute on occasion when necessary.
Regular reviews for yearly salary increase based on performance.
Managers were friendly, organized, and helpful albeit mores w non-technical concerns.
Training in current technologies relative to position.

    Cons

    -Pay wasn't very competitive
-Seating and work areas for all staff (except Managers) are 'open' and do not offer any sort of barrier for noise. If someone is on the phone next to you, you are pretty much involved in the conversation as well whether you like it or not.
-No logic to sectioned areas/groups so that you don't necessarily know what group is where in the building or who performs what functions.
-Very little cross-team communication (except if they stand up and shout across the open work areas).
-Found very few staff were responsive to appeals to discuss insight into methodologies and common practices at the non-managerial level.
-Overall very cliquey, the seating attempts to nurture familiarity and cooperation but in the end in many cases simply proved annoying and bred resentment.
-Terrible 'on-call' rotation and escalation process (there wasnt a clear escalation process).

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Foster more mentoring to newer employees and those new to HP methodologies/processes/procedures.
Develop Knowledge Bases that are more accurate or that are kept current.
Clearly designate areas and identify staff functionality.
Foster interaction between departments that often deal with issues on technologies that intersect.

I have been working at Hewlett-Packard full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Large global company, opportunity to try different things without leaving the company.

    Cons

Too large for it's own good, good example of corporate greed, some managers are not manager material and shouldn't have been hired as managers, Quota is always going up regardless of previous sales success....

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Turn back the clock about 10 years when you actually took care of sales rep's, managers, and support staff.

I have been working at Hewlett-Packard full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Great company training and training from partners.
Highly advanced with technical infrastructure, as it should be for a technical company.
    Good pay.

    Cons

    Horrible in team training.
Constant changes in structure and upper management.
    3 CEOs in 3 years.
Health care options in New Mexico were not great.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stop changing company hierarchy so much. I normally really enjoy change but it was completely chaotic there.

Respected Company, Terrible Infrastructure and Bureaucracy

Current Employee - Inside Sales Representative in Rio Rancho, NM

I have been working at Hewlett-Packard full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Flexible Work/Life Balance: Even with work-from-home ending, managers understand and respect your health, family and work/life balance. Time Off: Better than most starting vacation time & PTO.

Respected Company in Tech Industry: The founder of Silicon Valley. One of the greats! Brand recognition.

Supportive and Good Lower-Mid Level Management

    Cons

Lack of Technological Infrastructure & endless Bureaucracy: antiquated systems, databases, processes and "tools" - all of which are disconnected, non-user friendly, complicated, non-automated, full of "red tape" and connected through manual processes. These complicated processes have resulted in countless payroll errors - that take months to correct, lack of individual accountability, poor customer service and experience, erroneous sales reporting, etc.

Job Security: Instability & Constant Turmoil in Go-to-Market Strategy - Divisions/Roles are merging, then splitting off again, then getting spun or slashed. The company has been restructuring for over a year and cutting jobs. In late Spring 2014, Meg announced even more layoffs.

Career Development Track: No official career development programs or career-pathing.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

With Meg, the company is finally on a solid strategic plan to position the company for growth. HP needs employees to be more productive; and a comprehensive overhaul of the processes, tools and systems needs to priority #1. With that everything else will fall into place, and HP will once again be the great company textbook were written about.

I worked at Hewlett-Packard full-time (less than an year)

    Pros

HP is extremely laid back and great to work for. Managers are always there for you to help with anything you may need.

    Cons

Not a lot of room for personal growth for this position. They tell you it is easy to transfer to other places, but takes a lot longer than they make it seam. Team leads are some times difficult to get a direct answer to help you with the issue you are having.
