I have been working at Hewlett-Packard full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Great people. Good environment. Lot's of opportunity to learn and move around and try new things. There's plenty to do.

    Cons

In such a big company it's very difficult to shine or stand out. The rewards get trimmed down more and more every year. Just when you thought they ran out of ways to cheap-out on rewarding employees, they come up with some new and insulting "rewards system" which is just a new way to give less to employees. Bonuses have reduced to a trickle over the years along with raises.

    Advice to Management

Reward your people. Stop getting greedier and craftier in inventing ways to not reward employees. Giving me "points" and merit badges (yes, this is how they actually reward us) doesn't help me pay my bills.

    Pros

The culture of the office is extremely laid back in the Austin Office. Working from home is the norm especially in this office. As long as you get your work done, it doesn't matter where you get the work done. Of course, this all depends on your manager. The Austin office culture is really lively especially if you are working in the Cyber Security organization, one of the only groups that is growing rather than shrinking due to the company change in direction. There is a lot of opportunity to move around and grow your career. No dress code is also an awesome perk. Definitely one of the best decisions of my career coming to this company. Even if it doesnt work out at HP, there are so many opportunities in the area, finding another job will be extremely easy.

    Cons

None at this time. Great office and culture.

    Pros

Great work life balance. Have the ability to work remotely and I do not feel micromanaged but that probably because my supervisor is no longer in the US.

    Cons

Lots of turn over. Too much off-shoring. No raises. The fact that you have a job is your raise.

    Advice to Management

Give respect to your current employees instead of massive layoffs and minimal to no raises.

I have been working at Hewlett-Packard full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Overall, I like HP, even with the split. They generally treat employees well, have good benefits, etc. I work in one of the global IT groups, supporting internal customers all over the world as a project manager. The work is good, with a mix of old and new.

    Cons

Lots of turmoil. The current CEO had thing settled down after two or three not so good CEOs, but the company split has added chaos. At least in my group, we do not have a good plan for the future, and do not know what we will be working on now that the system splits have occurred. Rumors of layoffs after 1 Nov and the official splt abound.

    Pros

Project Managers can thrive - lots of opportunity to use different methodologies (Waterfall, Iterative, Agile, etc.). Much opportunity for web-based training.

    Cons

Work force reductions constantly keep resources guessing. Usually there is quite a bit of knowledge loss when reductions occur.

I have been working at Hewlett-Packard (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Excellent work environment for the most part. Not unlike any large corporation, a deep field of management and thus bureaucracy can be challenging at times.

    Cons

HP makes a solid product, though our economic times have had an impact on quality over the years.
