    Cons

HP has been experiencing too many layoffs. These have been happening every six months.

Current Employee - Services Information Developer in El Paso, TX

    Pros

    - Decent benefits (Medical, Dental, etc).
    - In the past company used to be flexible.

    Cons

    - Payment is extremely below under market price.
    - Micro management, Micro management, and Micro management.
    - Closed minded people.
    - People still think that they are working in the 70's or 80's.
    - No raises.
    - Few promotions.
    - Work Life Balance sucks (what is work life balance).
    - Hire inexperienced people because they try covering positions.
    - People is old like Methuselah, I do not have anything against old people, I believe that they bring a lot of experience, but here people do things like they did 20 years ago and they refuse to change.
    - Like big companies there is a lot of bureaucracy.
    - Cost reduction strategy is ridiculous, Software Engineers should collect requirements, test software (they fired all testers), implement changes (they fired configuration management team), dig into issues, promote changes, and do architecture tasks.
    - Old people that are friends of management team usually have architect positions even if they do not have an idea of the roles of the position.
    - People is afraid of changes and they refuse to them because they claim that changes jeopardize project tasks.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

If you want to reduce costs, I believe that there are more efficient ways to reach that. I guess that micro management is not the best way to reach project goals. Do not be close minded. Working under pressure is not the same as working under menace. Hiring cheap workforce does not mean that you must hire the first person that you found in the street and he / she accepts any offer because he / she needs some bucks.

Former Employee - Business Consultant in Corvallis, OR

    Pros

Lots of committed people with good ideas. A healthy work-life balance and a genuine interest in partnering for growth.

    Cons

Goals and job security changed week to week. Contractors were often left in the dark about major company decisions. Progress and momentum was often inhibited by leadership changes and unclear direction.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Outsourcing U.S. jobs looks bad and feels bad. A smaller, more secure workforce could foster success and be a shining example of investing in the American workforce.

    Flexible timings.
    Good work life balance.
    Leave structure is good.

    Cons

    1. People managers are technically very poor. So, most of the times, their decision is based on the decisions given by people whom they trust more.
    2. The salary offered during joining time is good, but the yearly hike is very less.
    3. Promotions take long time (more that 4-5 years) even though the performance appraisal ratings are high

    Cons

Expectations high, management has no direction, employees not motivated to do better or care anymore.

Former Employee - Account Delivery Manager  in  Portland, OR
Former Employee - Account Delivery Manager in Portland, OR

    Pros

There are so many great hard working people. There is also so much great diversity and experienced from employees of the companies like DEC, Compaq, Tandem. Have met co-workers who will be lifetime friends and colleagues. Company has so much potential to do more for their employees and therefore customers..

    Cons

To much focus on cutting expenses and Work Force Reduction. This causes employees to not do the best they can because they get distracted because of job searches or lack of confidence in job security. Business units are disconnected and don't seem to know what the other does. Classic example is the ES & TS organization. They don't know what each other does and finger pointing happens.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stop the use it or lose it vacations. Allow at least 1-2 weeks of rollover. I had lost vacation days because of the workload. Truly value your employees, walk the talk.
