    I worked at Hewlett-Packard full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Challenging work, co-workers, better than average benefits

    Cons

The never ending concern of losing employment due to workforce reductions for well over a decade and witnessing the loss of many great co-workers during the same time period

    I worked at Hewlett-Packard full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

When I was there the ability to work remote and at home was something I enjoyed. The technology was still bleeding edge which helped sell services.

    Cons

The constant loom of WFR was always around and it created a tension and problem for many people and still is happening to this day. Nobody thinks that there job is secure even if they are doing everything to assist the company and progressing it. There was fighting between CORE HP and HP Enterprise Services aka EDS always and it made it difficult to get things complete.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

If you are going to go through a Work Force Reduction do it and have defined dates and be done with it. Dont extend it out months and in the current case years.

    I worked at Hewlett-Packard

    Pros

Learning on the job. Training. Professionalism. Great office-culture.

    Cons

Work-life balance is the biggest con. HR being seen as an administrative burden vs. business imperative.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Consider work-life balance and choices to move employees back and forth from working at home to working in the office.

I have been working at Hewlett-Packard

    Pros

For the most part, the people are motivated and competent and enjoy what they do. The benefits are comprehensive and priced well in today's work environment. Certain areas of the company are growing and those are good areas to be in. With the split coming up, it could be a good time to join because there is opportunity opening up.

    Cons

Salaries are generally below market in this area and the reasoning is the other benefits make up for it. Some people have chosen longevity over productivity. The flip side of the coming split is that opportunities in certain areas of the company will decrease.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get compensation in line with market. Continue to encourage retirement buyouts. Continue to encourage pan-HP cooperation among business units and enforce it through compensation and rewards because customers really do want one HP voice coming to them with solutions.

I have been working at Hewlett-Packard full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

This is a fun company to work with -
    a) flexible work arrangements (as long as you don't abuse it).
    b) negotiable lunch and work hours (sometimes you have to work on EMEA times).
    c) Lots of online training available at grow@hp.
    d) You are encouraged to apply for other available HP positions after 1-2 years.
    e) Depending on your account, you would either have good or bad work-life balance.

    Cons

    a) External trainings will take some time to be approved - and it depends on how your manager writes it's justifications.
    b) The majority of employees have hardly any increments for the past few years.
    c) Can see the effects of cost-cutting.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I know it may be out of local management control, but consider giving more regular increments.

Current Employee - Thin Client Engineer in Cyberjaya (Malaysia)

I have been working at Hewlett-Packard full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Learnt multiple technologies (Client/Backup/Storage/Wintel/Thin Client) which is pretty good to get an understanding of a IT infrastructure.

    Cons

Salary of course, bonuses are non-existent and increments are petty.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

A company is not a company without it's people.
