    Pros

    - great people
    - big brand
    - customer respected
    - great benefits

    Cons

    -large company
    - all major decisions out of U.S ( Product managers) are back in time and always lagging competition ( not the brightest nor the best ( find feet on the street architects ) smarter than the Head office guys
    - always use RED TAPE as internal excuse to do what is right

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

-learn to hire pro's where it counts
    - pay employees who are performing market value ( even if they have been with the company for 15 years -20 years)

I have been working at Hewlett-Packard

    Pros

There is no micro-managing, hours a flexiable as long as your work is done. Management is open to hear ideas and is supportive moving within the company.

    Cons

No significant raises and not fully staffed so everyone wears different hats. San Diego site is strinking and will get smaller as the company becomes two seperate entities. Benefits continue to shrink and compensation is dismal.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Take care of your high performers and insure they do not burn out.

I have been working at Hewlett-Packard full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

HP is moving everyone back to offices in the next few months - this may have been the only reason to like HP

    Cons

There is no stability for employees - frequent layoffs - continual shift to offshore labor - work from home policy going away - sales are down - cost structure in Services is out of whack in comparison to Off shore providers - HP will have a very small US based workforce in the near future - no real in depth strategy to become competitive other than non stop cuts in labor

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

The work from home policy is standard in the IT industry and taking that away after promoting it for the last 5 years is a huge mistake. You wont get collaboration from having 50 different people in some small office who all have dissimilar jobs- the real reason is upper management thinks everyone is goofing off and are at a loss to understand that this is a management issue not a work from home issue. Also - need a long term strategy to become competitive other than cut, cut ,cut - possibly getting out of the lower cost/profit services and focus only on high value services that are much more profitable than ITO.
