    Pros

CEO has changed the direction and outlook of the company making it a positive work environment.

    Cons

HP is such a large company that business segments are still very independent of each other making it challenging to work through the bureaucracy.

    Pros

Fantastic learning environment where career advancement is possible.

    Cons

You have to be tough, go for it and work hard to get that advancement, but that is true anywhere you go. If you are looking for an easy ride you're not going to find at any company. So if you are going to work hard, this is the place to do it!

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Pros

Very little travel in my particular position, lots of autonomy overall it had been my favorite job until the WFR hit see below.

    Cons

When the 'WFR' work force reductions hit, its every one for himself! Some managers helpful, but other suddenly show their true colors. I recruited a great employee for my former manager and when the WFR hit my former manager wouldn't give this person a letter of recommendation - even though she was an outstanding, although new employee. Fortunately this employee still works for HP, and unfortunately so does that manager. The legacy HP managers for the most part only look out for themselves, new employees beware.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get rid of some of these self-serving managers who always seem to be one-step ahead of WFR. There is a lot of old fashioned cronyism and not enough new ideas.

    Pros

Good people. Solid benefits. Facilities in bay area are improving to be competitive with other bay area companies. Work life balance is good. HP charitable giving opportunities are top notch.

    Cons

Meg has recently instituted a new policy to "bring everyone back to the office". This means that if you are within an hour drive of an HP office, you are expected to be in the office everyday that you're not traveling on business. The only exception is sales and services professionals. Folks who don't have a field role or aren't within an hour drive of an office should be actively looking for their next job outside of HP.
In addition, a new policy restricts the rehire of anyone laid off in the last couple years, while looking to hire "more early career talent". So in a nutshell, don't expect to retire from HP.
Leadership is in turmoil at the moment, seems to be lots of external/unknown leaders coming into the company - uncertain about their impact yet.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

The smartest talent isn't in silicon valley, while I approve the idea of greater interaction between employees, your plan to bring everyone back to the office is short sighted and will ultimately kill the values that Dave and Bill built the organization around (IMHO).

Current Employee - Account Manager in Columbus, OH

    Pros

Great products, good life-work balance, good pay

    Cons

Weak mid-level managers and poor direction from top management. Every six months you are wondering if you will have a job due to restructuring and attempts to "mask" or mislead financials. Hiring "B" level staff to lower costs. Always chasing your compensation...if you can even figure out how you are paid each half.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Provide clear direction and stick with it for longer than six months. Stop operating in the "gray"

    Pros

Decent compensation, good work-life balance. All the perks of working in a huge organization.

    Cons

Thread of constant lay-offs. One the one hand, HP is posting job ads and hiring people, and on the other, is laying off people left, right and center! No job security at this company, at least in the current times.
