I have been working at Hewlett-Packard full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Room to grow, good work-life balance depending on manager.

    Cons

Shifting from very flexible workplace requirements (teleworking) towards more of an "in the office" policy.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    I worked at Hewlett-Packard

    Pros

There is a lot of knowledge still in the company even after the many rounds of layoffs. If you have a "Pre-Compaq" manager you'll get a lot of support and learn a lot, too.

    Cons

With the many rounds of layoffs a lot of the historic HP Culture put in place by Bill and Dave has been lost or tossed aside. Disappointing how all the senior management doesn't seem to be able to get a grip on how to effectively and profitably run the company, except by use of the layoff hatchet.
Over the past 10 years the perks have been constantly trimmed back, so that instead of leading the Silicon Valley employers, it is now middling.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    1) Remember the customer pays your salary (and everyone, too).
    2) Make things that are Great.
    3) Make things that are best in class.
    4) Quality, quality, quality.
    5) HP is a great brand with a lot of folks willing to pay more for quality, so go for the HIGHEST Quality denominator and not the LOWEST.

I have been working at Hewlett-Packard part-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

International, many chances to take, big learning curves, great people to work with

    Cons

really hard work for low (at the lower end of the comparable) salary, compared to the past no travel anymore, less fun team meetings due to low or no budget. Many functions have been outsourced to low cost countries, so loss of knowledge and good people.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

invest in R&D and high skilled people, especially on finance/ controllership and tax. The outsourcing to low cost countries wasn't the right approach, as the knowledge flew away with all redundancy globally

    Pros

    work life balance, time off

    Cons

there is a lack of training and you are somewhat thrown to the wolves to self teach

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

extended training for employees would ensure a better business workflow and increase productivity

    I worked at Hewlett-Packard full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Great culture, people are usually hired in their mid to late twenties as university or college graduates and if they prove to be capable, they are encouraged and have the opportunity to grow and be promoted. Most of the high level managers, directors and VPs have been promoted from inside the company.
Strong brand name, makes it easier for a sales person to position with confidence in front of even the most demanding customers.
Top products, usually no.1 or no.2 in every market the company competes in, well known in the market and with solid R&D investments behind them.
Work environment is very good and usually among the top companies to work for in every country where the company has presence.

    Cons

Usually pays at or even below the market average.
A lot of politics, especially when you become a people manager.
In the last few years, a lot of the "HP way" is gone and long term investment in people has started to suffer by the many "workforce reduction" plans, which aim at reducing the average age of employees and of course the respective salaries that younger employees get are much lower.
In the last few years, too many twists and turns in corporate strategy and too many re-organization attempts made at high level.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Success is not coming only when you slash costs and change the organization all the time to adapt to the market, but when you make the right decisions and investments proactively and ahead of the time when these are in demand by the market.

I have been working at Hewlett-Packard full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Great brand, good assets. Global company with a big reach and generally a good reputation in the marketplace

    Cons

Still struggling to find it's place in the services market while still focusing on being an equipment manufacturer

    I worked at Hewlett-Packard

    Pros

The best reasons to work at WindCorp are the seniority of the team. This provides the analysts real learning opportunities. Additionally, during my period at WindCorp, it was working on many projects, which increased my exposure to the M&A world.

    Cons

You must have a lot of initiative and passion if you want to undertake responsabilities. If you do not show enthusiasm and do not perform as expected you will get projects focused on researching.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Keep the culture that respects and encourages collaboration between workers.

I have been working at Hewlett-Packard

    Pros

Great people that can produce World Class great services, software, hardware products.

    Cons

Ridiculous management decisions and schemes based on limited IT data despite being a "data driven" company. The linkage between marketing and IT is remote on a good day. FY year plans six months after it has already started.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Improve IT resources for marketing which is making slow and blind decisions. There enormous teams of people who have been at HP forever in management who make the same ridiculous decisions.

    Doesn't Recommend
    Negative Outlook
    No opinion of CEO
