    I have been working at Hewlett-Packard full-time

    Pros

High degree of autonomy in managing development of high-visibility, big-budget, high-revenue products. Knowledgeable and very professional teams. Company name and reputation gets fast action from suppliers and customers alike.

    Cons

The corporate culture has changed significantly in the last 15 to 20 years. It has lost some of what once made it a great place to work. It's huge size alone has created a mountain of red tape to be overcome in order to innovate.

I have been working at Hewlett-Packard full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Intelligent and helpful co-workers who really want to do a good job.
    Flexible work hours

    Cons

Continues to be bogged down in bureaucracy and old processes
    Compensation is sub-par
Late to the party on many new technologies, while potentially revolutionary products are killed too early

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Look beyond the next quarterly results
Competitive pay does not mean "below the industry average". If you want to attract and retain top talent, you have to pay for it.

I have been working at Hewlett-Packard full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Storage (Enterprise) has many connections with the Network business in HP and these interactive dependencies create opportunity for skill expansion and professional growth.

    Cons

HP's current senior management is attempting to thin out the older staff in favor of young resources because they are cheaper to maintain. This creates a negative environment and lack of mentoring resources. While the company can definitely benefit from infusion of fresh talent this "weeding out" trend has been seen in HP before and it ended up hurting the product and service delivery quality.

    I worked at Hewlett-Packard full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

The individual contributors at HP are by far some of the best in the industry. Compensation is on par with the average, though difficult to catapult your salary. It was suggested that if you leave and come back, then you have the opportunity to really make significantly more.

    Cons

Senior leadership has gone through some flux and one of the major concerns I saw was senior leadership would be brought in from other companies and they would bring their team with them. Problem with that is, causes way too much friction with current process and procedures and normally new blood never made any significant impact.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

You'll always hear, we need to get back to the "HP Way" and HP does. The value the company brought to the employees and the value the employees brought to the company were at it's highest levels and HP really was where you wanted to be. Now, not really sure.

    Pros

Great technology company and great people working there.

    Cons

Lost the HP Way... Values only products and process. Has forgotten the value of the people part of the triangle. Looking to eliminate all long term employees.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stop being a hire and fire shop. Look to better utilize the resources already there.
