    I worked at Hewlett-Packard full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Very professional environment. Great supporting resources and benefits. Great leaders with high integrity. Meritocracy exists, strong performers are rewarded and recognized. Most businesses have market leading positions, with sustainable competitive advantages.

    Cons

The PC and print business are great, but those markets have not been growing for several years now. So the lack of growth is limiting opportunities. The pressure to create value by cutting costs in a declining business environment is taxing. The glory days seem to be in the past.

    Advice to Management

Post split, HP Inc should loosen the hub location strategy and make your 2nd tier sites strategic again.

I worked at Hewlett-Packard (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    - Smart people - Decent benefits - Remnants of an outstanding corporate culture - I made a couple of friends there.

    Cons

HP has lost its way: - Extremely political - Bureaucratic - Bizarre pay grades based on employment date (low for new hires) -

    Advice to Management

None. HP's history of acquisitions has been a series of disasters. Maybe splitting the company up will make both companies more agile.

I worked at Hewlett-Packard as a contractor (Less than a year)

    Pros

Completed over 54 banking centers in 16 weeks (Contract). Completely refresh all computer hardware & software in each banking center in 6-10 hours at night. Responsible for the completion of the migration of the banking center server 2003 to 2008 R., Teller Workstations (Micr, Validator & QST), platform workstations & printers/MFP. Main nightly contact on site between HP/ IG / BofA, TCC (NOC), RSD & Banking Center Manager. Complete pre-install walk through with banking center managers to ensure proper placement & installation of all technology to be refreshed, removed and replaced. Account for all incoming Inventory of hardware shipped from HP necessary to complete the installations. Stage equipment (CPUs, monitors, printers) in the locations that will be refreshed. Assisted on setting up the server and UPS/backup power source. Wire management & power on new equipment, clean-up & packaging of old equipment for shipment.

    Cons

You traveled to many locations in the Greater San Diego Area, Greater Los Angles, Greater Orange County. Worked evenings to early mornings.

    Advice to Management

If you ran into problems at your site, you did have a help line and your Lead tech, but it the Lead tech does not show, then you are left holding the bag. Then it gets be a long night, so you must learn on your feet quick.

I have been working at Hewlett-Packard (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Big company with lots going on always. Opportunities to move around if you like. There are some really great people at the company.

    Cons

Lots of complaints about pay. Company feels very cheap on giving back to employees for rewards.

    Advice to Management

Don't be cheap and promote within.

I have been working at Hewlett-Packard full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

This is not a young company in terms of the age of its workforce, but most people are very competent. Best of all, there's a strong respect for your life and time outside of work. The compensation is good and the vacation policy for new hires in the U.S. is much better than it used to be (15 days to start, increasing after 5 years).

    Cons

An older workforce means new employees will be junior for a long time, and more vulnerable to layoffs if you're not a star performer. There isn't a great onboarding process for new hires and it takes a year at least to understand all the department interconnections and processes for getting things done. There are few perks beyond a slight discount on consumer products and free photo/banner printing.

    Advice to Management

Keep working on allowing people to work with each other live instead of virtually. Too many remote team members makes it hard to collaborate and build any bonds.

    Advice to Management

    Pros

Decent benefits, some cool projects, some great people

    Cons

Company has limited vision, stifles progress, and has very little growth opportunities for employees. The company is not focused on quality and is very short sighted.

    Advice to Management

Do not sacrifice quality products to get "me too" products in the market "faster" which is really already behind the other guys.

I worked at Hewlett-Packard (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Overall great culture amongst the colleagues, friendly, family driven, willing to help each other. Flexible when needed with working hours or time-off; sick time does not deduct from your vacation :) plenty of different opportunities in the company to advance your knowledge and change up your career if your technical; monthly allowance for free printing at most locations; Senior management is fairly transparent they will tell you most things as the company changes direction and well ahead of time.

    Cons

High demands with little support or resources; long days expected. Need to move around in the company to maintain a competitive salary; don't be stagnant in your career. Like any corporation their bottom dollar is most important and there are many times you will be reminded of that. Lots of layoffs due to acquisitions.
