    Pros

    Good benefits, with good organization culture practice still intact to motivate employees sense of involvement of the good historical success of the company.

    Cons

    Challenges of constant changes with the development and strategy changes in consideration of the market drivers.

    Advice to Management

    Keep employees up-to-date with the development, of the high-level business strategy. In recent years, the operational employees left out of the strategic directions of the company.


  2. Lot of trust from company, for eg: leave is automatic approve when u apply. No need to submit medical certificate, just keep it for 2 years in case there is a audit. Employee are expected to have the highest level of integrity.

    Pros

    Jobs are split into very fine portion so each team looks at only specific area, unlike some local company where individual are overload with tons of work which result in loss of focus.

    Cons

    One might fall into comfort zone after a while and lost the fighting spirit. Another cons is it is very difficult to get promoted. There 6 level of management, individual contributor, people manager, director, vp, senior vp and CEO. As an USA company, it is very difficult for an non USA person to reach the level of director, but I think it is reasonable practice. Due to this reason, some folks are still individual contributor even at very senior age.

    Advice to Management

    Have more level of leadership, when a manager has more than 10 individual contributors to look after, it is difficult to focus and to give guidance. Have a system where a senior engineer or senior IC has some junior folks reporting to them. Limit the number of reporting to be less than 6 or 7. It also give people more motivation to work hard and be promoted.

    Pros

    Great People and Talent. All willing to do the right thing for company and customers.

    Cons

    Too focused on Cost Cutting and did not invest in R&D under previous CEO's but of late has restarted this investment. Hopefully this spurs HP to it's former glory days.

    Pros

    Recently set clear directions and execute reasonably well. Constant update to employees from top management. Best in class IT infrastructure for everything under the sun (eg. HR, IT support, sales). Many opportunities for lateral job transfers. Supportive colleagues with minimal politics.

    Cons

    Some IT platforms too complicated and involve long approval process. Tend to create too many job functions that overlap the same responsibilities.

    Advice to Management

    Hopefully there will be less top management movement like more than 4 years ago which resulted in disruption, disillusion and loss to competition.

    Pros

    It started with a company with trust and respect for their employees when business was doing well. Its a company with fair weathered friends.

    Cons

    Was a big company now notorious for disrespectful treatment of employees. Management tells lies to get things to go their way. When they cannot get their way, they target employees for termination. Class action lawsuits against HP management are in order.

    Advice to Management

    Telling lies to steer the ship in the right direction is a breach of standards of business conduct and should be dealt with in the court of law.

    Pros

    If you do not get the chance to work for a real IT managed services company this can be an entry point to gain work experience.

    Cons

    The Entreprise services has been acquired from Eds and is hard to see integrated with the other business units. HP is still a product company with a head time to manage services.

    Advice to Management

    Understand better the integration hurdles and drive behaviors that support the benefits of working across BU's harvesting the values of integrated services from HW+SW and services chain.

    Pros

    Flexibility timings, good work-life balance, friendly employees, good medical benefits.

    Cons

    Compensation package is not so competitive, very difficult to get promoted, salary hike is very less. Bonus too is very less (less than half a month salary)

    Advice to Management

    Can have a better review process rather than standard procedure. Seems like promotions are decided on std experience rather than performance. Can have better bonuses, profit sharing etc to motivate and encourage the employees.

    Pros

    Overall, the company has flexibility for employees, with a view to work/life balance. Great amenities.

    Cons

    At times, too many layers in the decision process - resulting in a delay in speed to market.

    Employee Retention vs letting knowledge getting out of its doors.
