Great team, but as a whole too much confusion.

    I worked at Hewlett-Packard full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

My team specifically was amazing. We pushed new boundaries, built great things, and brought in fresh new ideas to a legacy company. Great salary, okay benefits, opportunity to continue education. Opportunities to grow, some amazing products that have a ton of potential, smart acquisitions.

    Cons

Too much confusion. Huge disconnect between leadership and reality. From the very top to middle management leadership is misaligned with the reality of the products and their management needs. Too many meetings about meetings.

Giant loops of competing interests, lack of focus and follow through in interdependent teams that rely on each other to be successful. Status quo attitude. Talent loss had led to smaller teams stretched too thin to be able to accomplish anything meaningful. Half of company stuck in legacy stance the other half fighting for swift and progressive movement into the future. Progress is often stuck. Frenemies abound.

Food court is not good, no real commuter friendly options. At least have shuttles pick up from train stations.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Management should really take some anonymous surveys or get feedback from people on management to identify the problems. They don't want to know.

The backend is a problem. A big problem for everyone. They need to move faster and collaborate more willingly.

    I worked at Hewlett-Packard full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Stable and flexible. Opportunities to move to different departments when opportunities open up, and when you have a manager who supports and facilitates.

    Cons

The company as a whole struggled to put more investments to keep the talents and provide the best services after acquiring so many companies. Very diverse cultures( mainly the ways people get their jobs done) due to multiple acquisitions, it could take time to get used to that when you disagree with certain ways of doing things.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I would suggest more coaching trainings for the managers so they can retain their employees and still motivate them when an environment is perceived toxic.

I have been working at Hewlett-Packard

    Pros

    Great Team
    Great location
    Nice Café
    New building
    Clean location
    Good parking

    Cons

As a contractor you treated as that - a contractor. I'm used to working at companies where you were not treated any differently, except when it came to benefits.

You have to turn in your laptop before you go, you get no phone, no desk but you are expected to go above and beyond to get the work done.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Contractors know their place as a contractor. You do not need to make contractors feel crappy. This is a huge company and you would never expect that from a Silicon Valley giant.

I have been working at Hewlett-Packard full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

    Has work life balance
Growth is depending on the team/job you are in.
I have been on different teams within, there are teams that will not allow you to grow because of the job requirements.
    Project management in general sucks
    Good work environment
    WFH allowed

    Cons

    Medical insurance is average
Stock buy program is 5% discount, which is usually break even when you sell on execution day because of the trading charges
    HP product discount sucks
You have to work using HP machines. Fast if you get the latest one or the dev machines but beware they run hot enough to boil water.
Pretty bad internal site for job management. Seems like it has been there for 20 yrs ago and has not been updated.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Climbing up the ladder is a definite possibility or can be discussed and planned with your manager.

    Pros

Lots of learning opportunity if your welling to invest your time,

    Cons

High pressure of cost cutting, always have to show your working. Many time the environment seems like start-up but can't get anything done due to so many layers.

Bring your own cup if you want water.
Bad location in Moffett towers. --bad commute to location

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

lots of useless management in place where each one is competing to keep their own job.

    I worked at Hewlett-Packard

    Pros

Culture is very open to work-life balance, working remotely, leaving early, coming in office at time that's convient for your schedule. Lots of opportunities for growth if you get the visibility of upper management and work on projects/ products that are making money.

    Cons

Yearly or bi yearly workforce reductions are constant fear and a reality for most employees when the company or organization needs to show a profit for the fiscal year or quarter. Company is not loyal to its employees, no job is secured and you will be given only 2 weeks notice that youll be laid off. So keep your resume updated at all times. The Autonomy organization and products is the worst place to work in my opinion, egotistical management, lots of dissatisfied customers, angry field and sales people, and support organization is a toxic environment to work in, especially if your a woman. Other organization in HP have a better reputation and employees seems happy.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Meg STOP laying off people to show a profit for the year! Instead create products that actually make money! Employees become less motivated and less loyal to the company when they know that their job is at stake every single quarter or year. Invent new products/technology versus buying new companies and then letting go employees, also known as aquiring and then firing at hp.

The People and lower Management is great. There is flexibility in hours and ability to work from home. You can still get a work life balance

    Cons

I have been working at Hewlett-Packard full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

Innovation relavant to business and many venues to incubate

    Cons

very slow in developing the invention, needs granular focus and good agile practices.
If Management knows most of the employees are average then it is a management issue
they need to hire people where the balance is problematic enough for HP to rate...

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

HP has good avenues to promoate innovation and incubate it, but the problem comes when we try to productize it.
Can hire good visionaries in product managemtn than relying on few SOC people to dictate the features
which is bad because they do not see end to end delivery
