Pros
Decent stable place to work. Hours are not extremely taxing.
Cons
Past management. I hope Whitman will change things
Advice to Senior Management
Meg, you go girl!
Pros
Benifits were OK untill you find out there are other companies who give out better ones.
Cons
Dishonest management. When layoffs come, they try to find a way not to pay the package. And they to look deep into your profile.
Advice to Senior Management
GO back to the way Compaq ran it.
Pros
Got to see how a large company functioned, this being my first real internship. There was a very clear management structure and my team was very supportive.
Cons
Can get the feeling you are 'just a number', and sometimes you feel a disconnect with respect to upper management.
Advice to Senior Management
Get more in touch with your employees and keep us more in the loop in terms of your decision making process.
Pros
work from home flexibility
professional growth opportunities
some really excellent people to work with
interesting work and some opportunity to choose projects to work on
Cons
pay raises pretty close to non existent. Mgmt hopes same annual bonus each year keeps you happy
HP strives that each benefit be "market average". Average in every benefit = less than average across all benefits.
workload can be quite heavy. Nobody thinks twice of 6 PM meetings and some are genuinely surprised if you can't make a Saturday meeting
promotions seem very hard to come by. internal transfers almost always can't contain a promotion element because that represents an unfair advantage for the hiring manager. HP seems more willing to hire a stranger for the higher position than promote from within.
Advice to Senior Management
more communication is needed from senior mgmt. Meg started out with regular communication but now we don't hear much.
Pros
Global Environment, Amazing infrastructure and processes
Cons
A silo version of Product Management. Lack of engineering vision and innovation.
Pros
Stable place to work without the real fear of being let go. Nothing at HP (Enterprise Services) was stressful and the work was not difficult. This would be a great job if you just didn't care and wanted a place to spend 6, 7 or 8 hours a day. The best part of working for HP was the ability to print photos for free.
Cons
Dull, boring, work environment. Poor top-level leadership; every week we'd get emails about all the new Vice Presidents we were hiring or promoting. The message from the top was disjointed and inconsistent. EDS offered better benefits and opportunities for growth.
Advice to Senior Management
Stay exactly where you are and don't acquire any new companies, ever. This will guarantee that our paths will never again cross and I won't be subject to your malaise or incompetence or both.
Pros
work life balance, work from home option, flexible
Cons
No career growth. no promotions
Pros
HP is a large company with plenty of training and advancement opportunities. the abilty to telecommute awith HP is a plus as well.
Cons
with HP, promotions will not always result in pay increases. other negatives recently with working at HP is employee morale, due to leadership changes and leader mismanagement.
Advice to Senior Management
go back to the "HP way" of running the company; treat employees with respect and reward them on par with other leading IT companies.
Pros
Access to some interesting products
HP name opens doors
Opportunity to travel and gain Int'l experience
Many intelligent and nice people within the company
Some Sr Management actually know how to manage
Cons
Outside of the CA offices, pay is a bit lower than the norm
Constant reorg'ing has taken its toll on employees
Newer management are learning as they go
Working at HP has become known as a short-term career move vs a long-term
Advice to Senior Management
Spend more time trying to keep the current excellent employees would mean less time wasted constantly trying to recruit new ones all the time.
Pros
Lot of history
good work ethics
Knowledgeable management
Cons
Focused in too many product areas
