    I worked at Hickory Farms

    Pros

Work with my schedule and my employees schedules. Great opportunity.

    Cons

Only Seasonal employment would like a year round job with this company

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Give some incentive to their employees including management. You would be amazed at what that can do.

    I worked at Hickory Farms

    Pros

Working there was fun, flexible, sometimes challenging, and interesting. I would definitely do it again. Anyone looking for seasonal, part-time work should check them out.

    Cons

On the downside, seasonal work. Dealing with the public, during the holidays, can test a person's patience. These are my only cons

    Cons

May not work consistently and frequently based on manager's discretion, employees are hired through third-party company (Headway), often have to over for late employees, poor communication on store level.

I have been working at Hickory Farms as a contractor (less than a year)

    Pros

Considered to be a Holiday tradition, award winning summer sausage. Excellent online training center. Excellent Area Managers take all stress away from Store Managers. Hiring and onboarding are completed through a temp agency, all online. Area Managers make all schedules. Can work every season if desire to do so.

    Cons

Is seasonal work only, at kiosks set up in malls. Pay is hourly for all, even managers. Hiring and onboarding are completed through a temp agency, all online. Area Managers make all schedules.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Keep up the good work.

I have been working at Hickory Farms full-time (less than a year)

    Pros

Great Discounts. Great job if you like working with the public. Good trading for associates. Pretty good starting pay for Associates.

    Cons

Starting pay for new store managers is low. Traing hours for Store Managers was cut out completely. As a Store Manager you must work every Saturday.

Have more training hours allotted for Store Managers. Allow Store Managers to hire their own staff. Area Supervisors do their best but they do not have to work with people throughout the season.

Bring back cash incentives for reaching goals.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Listen to you STL they are the front line, and know what's going on.

Not what it appears to be on the surface

I worked at Hickory Farms full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Some good employees at the office overall. Culture of the company on the surface appears to be good but under the surface their is doubt and fear of upper management which generates the doubt.

    Cons

Grocery conduit is no longer able to offer a quality proposition versus the retail price
Buyers are not aggressive enough at getting competitive costs
Workers tend to be in fear of losing job based on previous turnover
How far can you leverage a brand name for margin ?
No new item pipeline has frozen growth
As malls fade where does that leave the company long term ?

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Create some new items and instill confidence of employees through more than what is in place. Problems are under the surface and at some point the brand will no longer be relevant due to the craziness of prices to drive profit through gross margins. At some point your reach a tipping point where lack of volume makes it impossible to generate a margin or profit as costs outstrip the ability raise prices.
