Great company to work for

Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

I worked at High Performance Technologies full-time

ProsGreat culture
Great values
Integrity
Cared about employees
Nurtured and invested in employees
On a success trajectory
Low turnover rate
Great social atmosphere

ConsEmployees under Management level worked ALOT harder than employees at higher levels.

Selling to DRC in 2011 caused major changes that turned HPTi into a completely different company with different values.

Yes, I would recommend this company to a friend – I'm optimistic about the outlook for this company

Great company to work for, especially at the top levels... but middle management sometimes diminished it.

Project Manager (Current Employee)

I have been working at High Performance Technologies full-time

ProsInnovative, Communicative, Cared about Knowledge Leaders. Former CEO Tim Keenan was driven by strength of character and integrity.

ConsHires in 2010-2011 brought with them cronies from their old jobs, and changed the company a bit. Earlier round of ex-booz folks brought in money (through consulting) but the flavor of the company changed a bit from an engineer-run company to a consultant run one.

Advice to Senior ManagementBe VERY careful about new hires. Indoctrinate them into the corporate culture, and do 360 reviews to make SURE they're a match for your values.

First job

ProsGood pay, decent culture, engaging

ConsLots of corporate culture shoved down your throat, lots of random work that you weren't really signed up for, random layoffs

Great Leadership but too much favoritism

Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)
Reston, VA

I worked at High Performance Technologies full-time

Prosleadership is (was) easy to stand behind and believe in. A very honest company who puts the customer first. Culture was above average, could have been improved upon but better than other places

Constoo much favoritism, and way too much loyalty to people that have taken up space and nothing more for way too long. The expectation of overtime all the time gets to be too much after a while. Work life balance only exists for people in the right departments

Advice to Senior Managementshouldn't have sold to DRC

Good company overall

Staff (Current Employee)
Reston, VA

I have been working at High Performance Technologies

ProsExcellent education and supplemental benefits. Lots of intelligent/smart driven people to work with. Financial stability of the company overall is key. Great senior Mgmt. for the most part, w/ average middle mgmt.. Unique approach to employee lifestyle and freedom.

ConsSome disconnect on achievement and recognition within. Seems to be a poor system in place for promotions, but could be specific to particular managers. Often times, just knowing the manager/VP someone works for, you can tell what their review will be. (with no knolwedge of the individual)

Advice to Senior ManagementBase promotions and reviews on real life events/success and individual achievements, not based on who they work with/for and what others around them did. There are a lot of highly compensated task masters, that are really just middle men that could be shaved off easily without any real backlash (other than positive)

Blame first, ask questions later (if at all)

Program Manager (Former Employee)
Reston, VA

I worked at High Performance Technologies

ProsGood compensation and benefits. Skilled colleagues.

ConsManagement often blames based on faulty perceptions with bothering to first trying to understand.
Management takes advantage of willingness to work hard by not recognizing accomplishments.
Corporate espousing of cores values masks lack of ethics among senior manages.
Reston centric approach to everything; staff on customers' sites are expected to come to Reston (either physically or virtually).

Advice to Senior ManagementSeek first to understand, than to be understood!

Values oriented business with approachable management, interesting work, and good compensation.

Analyst (Current Employee)

I have been working at High Performance Technologies

ProsManagement is approachable and flexible. Work is interesting, though it can vary highly based on the contract. Management listens well and you can change work locations or contracts with relative ease (though it takes some time).

ConsSomewhat chaotic organizational practices. Can take a while before you move to another contract.

Advice to Senior ManagementImprove the flow and speed of organizational practices. Meetings (on-site or remote) should start on time and technical issues should be dealt with in advance.
