Working at HUSD Transportation is nothing short of an excellent experience.

    Bus Driver (Current Employee)
    Gilbert, AZ

ProsI feel that working at HUSD Transportation is awesome. The people there are fairly nice, the office staff and administration staff are all great people. They have fun activities and find excuses to have potlucks,

ConsThe only downside of driving school buses is just that you are driving school buses. Basically you have work for a total of nine months and then there are the vacation days like Christmas Break, Fall Break, Spring Break and Summer Break, Generally you are not paid for these vacations so you have to fend for yourself.

Advice to Senior ManagementThere really is nothing to say other than to keep up the good job of running the show.

District in Transition with definite struggles

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)
    Gilbert, AZ

ProsIn a community that is mostly community driven and cares about schools.
    Good connections with business partners

ConsEmployee supports is very limited. Teachers often do not have time to meet together to work on common curriculum, even though that is the expectation. Teachers are often expected to find and acquire teaching products and resources.
Community often overrules decisions of various administrators in districts.
District administrative decisions are often driven by friendships and relationships.
    Looming budget cuts.
    Very high teacher turnover
As an employee, little to no career advancement. Department chairs do not receive any extra compensation or benefits for leadership position. Not campus leadership positions.

Advice to Senior ManagementFocus on supporting young teachers is important as this population makes up high percentage of work force. Teachers are often seen as tools, not as people.

    My experience was excellent

    Principal (Former Employee)

ProsLeadership in HUSD is knowledgable and supportive

ConsCommunity sometimes has stronger decision making power than the district.

Advice to Senior ManagementGreat job for our students.

Not the right place for everyone

    Resource Teacher (Former Employee)

ProsSome great teacher, good facilities, strong technology

ConsLittle room for "out of the box" thinkers. Non supportive teachers to special needs students. Special needs teachers at the bottom of the pecking order. No real incentive for regular classroom teachers to make accommodations needed.

Advice to Senior ManagementProvide more incentive for teachers who are willing to try new things and innovative ideas. Be open to different ideas and creative thinking.
