Good first job, limited room for growth

Program Director (Former Employee)
Albany, NY

I worked at Hillel: The Foundation for Jewish Campus Life full-time for more than a year

ProsVacation time, flexibility of schedule, atmosphere

ConsSalaries, benefits, work-life balance are very tough, especially for someone just moving to the area. It's very hard to negotiate salaries, based on which campus you work on, because they just don't invest the $ in their junior staff... partly because most of the time they just don't have it.

Well-intentioned organization needs core improvements

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

I have been working at Hillel: The Foundation for Jewish Campus Life

ProsProgram colleagues are smart and driven, and the impact of your work is felt across the Jewish world. There is no place to have more positive influence on the future of the Jewish community than at Hillel.

ConsThe hierarchical organization is in flux, in need of reorganization and better HR structure at the SIC and in the field to improve performance.

Advice to Senior ManagementImprove communication throughout all levels of the organization, and establish clearer internal structures.

Changed my undergrad experience from dull to amazing

Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

I worked at Hillel: The Foundation for Jewish Campus Life

Pros-met a lot of great people
-got the opportunity to travel with new friends
-created a community vibe that made the transition from home to college dorms more comfortable
-

Cons-anti Jewish feel on campus at times...or at least anti Israel

Advice to Senior ManagementWork on pro-Israel programs and work shops, or at least some type of education on Israel in a general sense that that initiates the discussion rather than leaving a negative portrayal from media.

Campus Entrepreneur

Campus Entrpreneur (Former Employee)
New York, NY

I worked at Hillel: The Foundation for Jewish Campus Life part-time for more than 3 years

Prosflexible schedule, meet new people, create initiatives you love, get reimbursed for events you create, great community, salary for doing things that feel natural!, all -expense trip paid to go to annual Hillel nation conference (very fun!!!), get your friends to top of the Birthright list

Conshave to use an outdated (or at least was for me) database called REACH, have to meet minimum amount of new people and log them into database which can sort of trivialize value of relationships

Advice to Senior ManagementAs Im sure they have since my time there, please try to make the framework required for the interns less like a business, so that the purpose of the internship (to make contacts) can be embraced further
