Great brand, great starter job for hotel professionals

Sales Manager (Current Employee)
Lafayette, LA

I have been working at Hilton Garden Inn full-time for more than a year

ProsTons of training, and a good place to start off on your hotel path.

ConsMore and more hotel guests ask for a free breakfast, but since HGI caters to the business traveler our breakfast is not complimentary. That can be a challenge when selling to the non-corporate market, and picking up shoulder night and weekend business.

Advice to Senior ManagementConsider a commission payment that will push your employees to sell.

Horrible under current management company.

Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

I worked at Hilton Garden Inn

ProsThe give great hotel discounts when traveling.
Meeting (and networking with, if you're on your A-game) people from any and every walk of life.

ConsOwned and operated by LBA Properties. Current General Manager is completely unprofessional. He refuses to utilize cover sheets when sending faxes, regardless of the information on it. Needless to say I have had to go through the "recycle bin" a few times to shred my and others SSN's, DOB's, etc. LBA Properties never believes anything said against GM until you go to the top of the chain with the same proof you offered the lower level s

Good Attitudes

Front Desk Agent (Current Employee)

I have been working at Hilton Garden Inn full-time for more than a year

ProsThe hotel I work at is usually full of happy people-- happy employees, customers, and event-goers. Many people have asked to cross-train and are able to do so if they desire to. I find the hotel position to be quite enjoyable.

ConsOne challenge I have faced is having a lot of responsibilities when no managers are present to deal with bigger issues on the nights and weekends.

Advice to Senior ManagementJust keep reminding people that they are appreciated-- although I already feel plenty appreciated.

The Hilton Garden Inn is a great place to get a start in the hospitality industry.

Guest Service Agent (Current Employee)
Rochester, MN

I have been working at Hilton Garden Inn part-time

ProsManagement staff is supportive. You have a lot of freedom and control to make guest's stays more enjoyable. There is room for advancement if you prove yourself a valuable employee and aspire to do more.

ConsIt's always open, so you could work early/late and holidays/weekends. Guests, like customers anywhere, are demanding; therefore if you don't have great customer service, a hotel wouldn't be the job for you.

Used to love it there

Food and Beverage (Current Employee)
Atlanta, GA

I have been working at Hilton Garden Inn full-time for more than a year

ProsI love most of the people I work with and I definitely love meeting and working with the clients in the banquet space. It's fun to make an event that is unique and special.

ConsToo much cattiness and changing of policies. Things change from day to day no matter how good of an employee you are. Your best just isn't good enough.

Advice to Senior ManagementLearn to appreciate your good employees and do more to keep them with the company.
