    Pros

benefits, its just a paycheck, great co-workers, fun place to work when managers arent there.

    Cons

MANAGEMENT is inept, do not care about entry level employees that are the face of the company. No communication but they want excellent service by their standards which is a mystery if they dont talk to you. They love cutting labor hours yet expect half staff to give best service to guests. Aren't provided the right tools but are expected to look best.

    Advice to Management

communicate by talking to the actual person, and not thru other employees easier to say than to do hire some people than are social and aren't stoic

    Pros

The medical benefit package isn't too bad.

    Cons

Their policies and procedures prevent you from succeeding. They hire you to do a job, but then their policies and proceedures prevent you from doing it. Vacation days are very difficult to schedule, and consecutive days off are nearly impossible to get. And unless you have many years of seniority, you will never spend a holiday at home with your family. Their attendance policy is a bit unrealistic, especially for those with children.

    Advice to Management

Treat your employes as well as you claim to treat your guests. Without employees there are no guests. There needs to be a balance between home life and work, allowing an employee a special rate is a nice thing, but if you can never get the time off to take advantage of it, whats the point? Employees may not be so dissatisfied if they were able to spend more time with their families, especially holidays. It may be better to assign holidays on a rotating schedule rather than by seniority. That way the same employees won't have to work every holiday.

Former Employee - Hotel Desk Reservation Agent At Call Center in Tampa, FL
    No opinion of CEO

    Pros

Employee reservations at OWNED and MANAGED properties are free, plus reduced rates at many other properties. It's always nice when representatives from specific locations come and visit the center, as they often sponsor contests and provide lunch or some sort of giveaway. However fun that is, however, you don't get extra time off the phones for it, and you have to zip past on your fifteen minute break or thirty minute lunch, grab pamphlets and freebies and pretend to hear the hotel's selling points before returning to your desk to take more calls. Also, free stays at specific properties would be better IF you could get the time off to actually take the vacation.

    Cons

I found the HR department went to great lengths to create a hostile work environment requiring documentation for FMLA chronic care up to four times per year (which irritated my doctors). The manager of the call center would rather be roasting a whole pig (true story-he brought it in for staff) than actually doing his job. They are known through out Tampa for their very low start pay and nickel and diming their employees to death. They often break "promises" creating a very low morale. About the only thing positive about the call center is the paint on the walls (bright yellows, reds and blues).

    Advice to Management

Without reservationists, you don't HAVE a center to run. Stop playing at being managment, learn to do your job and get your fingers out of the business you DON'T understand!!

    Pros

IT at the operations center in Memphis used to be at the good end of a firehose of money, but the good old days are clearly over. Now the best thing about the place is free coffee. But they've stopped giving away cups.

    Cons

With (I think) a few groups that are notable exceptions, IT management is frustratingly inept. They will be very nice to you and give you lots of money (well, they would until about 6 months ago) but they are incapable of differentiating between good work and gross incompetence. This is all starting to catch up now and there's a mood of panic about the place. People are being laid off rapidly; sadly your chances of going away don't seem at all related to your usefulness to the company.

    Advice to Management

I'm just talking about IT management here because that's who I've worked closely with for a long time - but the only advice now is just to resign. The CIO and most senior management has been in place a very long time. I think they were good a long time ago, but now they seem to have no understanding of what works and what doesn't or what IT actually is . Managing IT is a lot more than just signing contracts with Accenture and shuffling the org charts every 18 months.

    Pros

Hilton Hotels aka Blackstone no longer understands and does not care, so why answer.

    Cons

There were no upsides. Hilton Hotels systematically eliminating loyal and professional associates to bring in friends, lovers and previous co-workers who don't understand the history and what works and doesn't. Travelers stay with Hilton because it is Hilton, good luck with the mess your have created. What once was, is no longer and what is, is not any better. You didn't listen to your to your associates or your guests.

    Advice to Management

You have forgotten who we are here for, but what can be expected from bean counters? You don't know what service is.

    Pros

Hotel discounts were nice when you could use them.

    Cons

The management is uninvolved. Labor and health issues in kitchen and throughout hotel. Mold is a huge issue due to multiple leaks in roof. Kitchen is not cooled. Workers suffer heat stroke and constantly sweat into food being served. Cooks eat while cooking and smoke often without washing hands. Major cleanliness issues; check any health inspection. Gross.

    Advice to Management

Listen to what your employees are telling you. Sexual Harrassment, verbal abuse! Should never be tolerated.

    Pros

It's an easy job for decent money. For the most part you are left alone to do your job. One great benefit is being able to stay at any of the hotels in the corporation for free or very inexpensively, if you can find one available. If you like talking to people this is the job for you. You'll make great friends that will last beyond your employment.

    Cons

Once a month meetings with your supervisor that is full of discouragment, negativity and bad reviews. If you can't sell enough hotel rooms in a month, you are written up. Yes, it's your fault if you get more cancellation or modification calls than sales calls! Information about the hotels you are trying to sell is very minimal. The plus is if you have been to that particular city before and know something about it otherwise good luck. Their protocal for a phone call changes monthly. You don't know what your supposed to say to the customer anymore. And if you need to transfer a customer to another department, good luck finding the right transfer number.

    Advice to Management

Listen to your employees! They are the best source for what the customers want and need. Those on the front lines hear more of what is beneficial to the customers and yet your never ask what that is. When you have 94% of your team refusing to say certain words on the phone to the customer, find out why! And lastly, you shouldn't charge someone $6 per paycheck just because they smoke. I wonder when you'll charge for someone being overweight.
