    Pros

Good opportunities for career advancement and personal development

    Cons

Poor management , most managers are fluff and do not have any substance. Therefore decision making is not data based and results in poor outcomes.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Listen to organization more instead of making decisions without buy in.

Current Employee - Key Account Manager in Mumbai (India)

I have been working at Hindustan Unilever full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Very established systems and processes. Legacy of brands. Extremely progressive administrative policies like for travel, maternity that are employee-centric

    Cons

Career progression plan is a bit ambiguous, overstaffed and lack of entrepreneurial spirit. 80% of time is spent on formalization of a plan, only 20% for execution which results in sub-optimal output.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

A more intelligent recruitment plan is required. Increase the residency period of each role so that people take accountability of their roles.

HUL - Leadership Factory for any Indian Business

    • Comp & Benefits

    • Career Opportunities
Current Employee - Manager in Mumbai (India)
Current Employee - Manager in Mumbai (India)

I have been working at Hindustan Unilever full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

    1. Work with the most talented minds
    2. Get to do pioneering work - both in thought and action. HUL is clearly ahead of the curve by 3-4 years.
    3. Superb processes to help you in your daily job
    4. One of the best HR processes and policies - it becomes so common to you that it is hard to imagine life without these perks / benefits

    Cons

    1. Some processes (esp. performance appraisal) are easy to get around. Sometimes diplomacy seems to win over pure hard work and that is disheartening.
    2. You have to literally fight for your promotion that you are rightfully entitled too - especially for direct recruits. I come to work every day to give the best for the company and not think about my next promotion all the time - but I'm almost forced to do it knowing if I don't - I'll stagnate
    3. Employees waste a lot of time talking about grades & promotions - as a company we are obsessed with competitiveness (shows more in getting promotions and accolades than actual impact on business)

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Over the last couple of years HUL has actually become an agile company but I feel there is still some bureaucracy existing. Should operate at lightening speed in terms of decision making and should be a very transparent and open door policy of running a team.

    Good flexibility and agile team.
Highly interactive and intermingled functions allow you to learn about varied fields
good company values in terms of safety, health and environment

    Cons

Every manager/executive is super busy, you need to be on your toes to find time with them.
Work life balance depends highly on your manager
You need to have very good communication and networking skills to progress fast

    Advice to ManagementAdvice
