Hitachi Consulting is the worst consulting company this 30 year industry veteran has ever seen. AVOID AT ALL COSTS!

Vice President (Current Employee) Dallas, TX

ProsHitachi Consulting is one of the worst consulting companies I have ever experienced. I have been working in the industry for over 30 years and the Hitachi Consulting leadership is some of the worst I have ever experienced. The morale at Hitachi Consulting is the lowest I have ever experienced. There is a massive gap between those favorites of the leadership team and the rest of the company. The region with the favorites are always promoted and the others are left to earn money and feed the salaries of those in the good ole boys club.

ConsThe leadership has no concept of how to create a team environment. Favoritism is rampant throughout the company with promotions based on personal relationships.

Advice to Senior ManagementPromote based on metrics and stop the discrimination, favoritism, and blatant disregard for actual abilities.

    unless desperate move on

Senior Consultant (Current Employee) Denver, CO

Prosgood place to start if you're coming out fo college but not for Sr Consultant. They have a nice benefits package, which is good for those that need it. Great Health benefits.

Conspoor managment, poor communication, impossible to get people to do their jobs correctly. The management and recruiting team is not technical even close to enough to understand their own consultants and clients' needs. They don't review their consultants skill sets to better place them for growth of the company or growth of the consultant. Efforts should be taken from the top down to reduce turnover and keep consultants on staff that actually know their skill sets not fake them.

Advice to Senior Managementcommunicate better and base reviews and promotions on skill set and performance not time spent in a position.

    Avoid for professionals.

Senior Consultant (Former Employee) Los Angeles, CA

ProsTo start a career, its OK place - the pay is very less.
As an experienced professional - AVOID !!! You will not go anywhere within the firm...!

Cons- Way behind in technology skills compared to its peers.
    - Junior level employees at all levels work in this company.
    - Most of the employees are fresh out of college
    - Not so much to learn from the company.
    -Avoid for professionals.
    -Conflicting messages from senior management.
-impossible to change the service line.
-Pay does not equate to the amount of work you actually do. No overtime. Bonuses are minimum.
-Your project is only one of the many things you'll be working on at any given time.

Advice to Senior Management- Be rational to every employee.
    - Treat Senior employees with respect, and value their opinions, instead of feeling threatened by them !!!
-Compensation needs to be higher considering the amount of work the employees put in on a weekly basis.

    Giant company

Anonymous Employee (Former Employee) Gaithersburg, MD

ProsFor the technical people, there seem to be great opportunities to advance.

ConsAt a huge company, figuring out the rules with legal is a slow and scary prospect

Advice to Senior ManagementRequire management to welcome ALL people from a new acquitision. Seemed like they were NOT open to learning anything from the experience of the people they acquired.

    Director - Strategy

Director - Strategy (Former Employee) Irvine, CA

ProsGood brand association due to the Parent company.

ConsLack of a growth strategy, declining market share, acquisitions are a disaster since the acquired teams are completely neglected.

Advice to Senior ManagementIts about time to realize and embrace globalization to stay competitive & expand operations.

Struggling to find a reason to stay

    Senior Manager (Current Employee)

ProsThe professionals in the trenches are quality individuals for the most part.
    Project work is challenging.
    Travel oppportunities are available.

ConsSenior Management is out of touch with reality. Projects are bid without consideration of the work that needs to be done. Most contracts are negotiated to a price, not a deliverable.
Leadership does not hesitate to throw their team under the bus in order to make themselves look better. It is an "old boys club" that does not value the hard work and sacrafice given by their employees.

Advice to Senior ManagementListen to the people doing the work. Your tactics of underbidding just to win the work are hurting you in the long run. If you want to be the discount service provider, then brand yourself as such and stop trying to compete with the real consulting firms.
Your HR issues will not go away and will continue to grow if you allow VPs and Directors to run roughshod over the people who deliver your services. Try standing up for your employees once. You may be surprised at the results you get.

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee) Hyderābād (India)

    ProsFlexible timings.
    Nothing much to say.

    ConsOn-site chances are almost rare.
Any one will be fired any time - No job guarantee.
    Lots of gossips about firing.

    Any time firing

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee) Hyderābād (India)

    ProsFlexible work hours.
    Higher management is generally good.

ConsFiring is frequent (due to some crap managers).
Few senior managers are like crap (10-15 years service here)

    Advice to Senior ManagementNone.

A me-too consulting company with poor strategic direction and awful execution.

Senior Manager (Former Employee) Atlanta, GA

ProsIndividual contributors are the salvation of the company in spite of Hitachi's manglement (that's mangle and management combined).

ConsZero strategy or tactical approach to client growth and management. I can look around and see the same middle managers and vice president stuck in the same title for the last 10 years, mostly because they don't deserve promotion and they haven't been let go. Customer management and relationship building is largely non-existent.

Advice to Senior ManagementFind an identity and create a real culture. Bring the client into the equation by fostering through partnerships. Institute a mentoring program to properly expand new talent's horizons.

No direction. Making the same mistakes again and again.

Manager (Former Employee) London, England (UK)

ProsSome good technical people who really get stuck in during troublesome times.
    Fairly flexible working conditions.

ConsNo overall direction. Project scope creep without change control on many projects. Internal systems (IT) appauling. No real interaction between company divisions unless necessary causing project transition issues and headaches for all involved. Questionable quality of some offshore resources.

Advice to Senior ManagementFind out what you want to be. You're nowhere near being an IBM or Accenture.
People close to burn out on difficult projects, so fix the repeat issues and make it better for new projects.

No, I would not recommend this company to a friend
