Can be a god place to work if you are in IT, not a good place for management/business consulting.

    Pros

Interesting projects and people, but they are a technology company not a management/business consulting firm. The projects are driven by vendor packaged solutions

    Cons

what Hitachi consulting? It's a collection of acquired companies that have different work ethics and quality standards.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

cultural and values clash between acquired companies needs to be addressed, and that doesn't mean bringing values to the least common denominator

I have been working at Hitachi Consulting

    Pros

Hitachi Consulting is a good place to start your career straight out of college. They recruit heavily on campuses and it is a great stepping stone. Out of school most young consultants would love traveling and if you are one of them, HC is a great place to start.

    Cons

Compensation would be the biggest negative of Hitachi Consulting. They draw lots of talented employees but the retention rate is very low, since the employees don't get paid much.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Hitachi Consulting's compensation method needs to be reviewed, especially for loyal employees. There are employee's who have been with the company many years and their compensation does not reflect what they have been doing for the company.

Lots of good people, but lacking in overall cohesiveness

    Pros

There are many good people if you can get involved with them. Good partnerships with several key software vendors.

    Cons

Way too much politics. Too much unfriendly competition between teams across the nation. Executive management doesn't appear to be genuinely concerned with making it a better place to work.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Don't do the employee satisfaction surveys just to get an aggregate score - actually read and heed some of the feedback people give you in them! Stop trying to make it into another Arthur Andersen and just go with what works for the group you have.

Good firm to work for sans the nepotism by the ex-navigator folks in the firm

    Pros

Firm not too big nor too small; so one can hope to get noticed if perform well; Pay is comparable to big firms

    Cons

Difficult to navigate the office politics and difficult to break into the network of ex-Navigator folks who are at the top echelons of the firm; ex-Navigator folks help each other out when it comes to career progression.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Break the navigator nepotism that is pervasive across the firm.

Hitachi Consulting is the worst consulting company this 30 year industry veteran has ever seen. AVOID AT ALL COSTS!

    Pros

Hitachi Consulting is one of the worst consulting companies I have ever experienced. I have been working in the industry for over 30 years and the Hitachi Consulting leadership is some of the worst I have ever experienced. The morale at Hitachi Consulting is the lowest I have ever experienced. There is a massive gap between those favorites of the leadership team and the rest of the company. The region with the favorites are always promoted and the others are left to earn money and feed the salaries of those in the good ole boys club.

    Cons

The leadership has no concept of how to create a team environment. Favoritism is rampant throughout the company with promotions based on personal relationships.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Promote based on metrics and stop the discrimination, favoritism, and blatant disregard for actual abilities.

I have been working at Hitachi Consulting

    Pros

    Great people
Easy access to leadership within the firm
Good combination of being a relatively new company but also being stable and established in a lot of ways
Work-life balance is generally very good for a consulting company
Market focus helps keeps people local

    Cons

While the company has come a long way in the last few years, there is still room for improvement with regard to methodologies, processes, etc.
Markets and practice areas are all managed in different ways

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Keep working on improving internal training, methodologies, etc. I think we are headed in the right direction there.

    I worked at Hitachi Consulting

    Pros

The fellow consultants are fairly warm hearted and professional. Before losing many of the top guys, good deal of industry expertise and years of experience at the firm.

    Cons

The management is completely scattered. Was disappointed in the lack of communication and paths for advancement. Compensation is far below market average. Don't know if this was a cultural issue with the senior management from Japan (which to be fair was very nice to work with), but would not advise HC as a good gig. Other support services were minimal. Company has experienced a lot of brain drain in recent years -- many of the better people have left for other gigs that pay market.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Senior decisions seem to be made in a closet and communicated poorly.

    Pros

Great place to begin your consulting career. Very competent and helpful co-workers so pretty good culture. Pay is pretty fair (but not extravagant). Fairly loyal company...particularly to upper management. Great job by Marketing team to increase favorable visibility of the company over the years. Management wants very much to create a "sticky" work environment to decrease turnover...therefore, they really seem to want to do the right thing for employees. Review process is heavy in overhead but, because it calibrates among consultants, it is more effective than only one-on-one reviews.

    Cons

Communications from the top could be stronger. Room for improvement in collaboration among teams, particularly around sales. Fairly wide breadth of claimed expertise so getting critical mass in some areas is difficult for a medium-sized company...like too many plates to spin effectively.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Increase strategic communications from the top...your company doesn't really understand where you are going, how you are getting there, and whether or not you are continually being successful or not.

    Pros

small consulting company with greta quality of consultants.
The oroginal company Tactica was superb, which went downhill after acquisition of Anderson consulting team which took over the company and brought a lot of favoritism in play
    comparable benefits

    Cons

a lot of favoritism and disregard for hardworking consultants when it was time for promotion. Promotions were based on your selling skills rather than delivery skills.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

be fair, reduce favoritism, provide a career path for technically solid consultants instead of trying to make them salespersons.
