I have been working at Hitachi Consulting

    Pros

    Good people
    Good clients
Good training if you try to get it
Good backing from an international firm who is on board with Hitachi being the global consulting arm
    Acquistion companies were fantastic

    Cons

    Terrible strategy going forward
Everyone came here to work for one reason, now we are on another
Focus on profitabilty a terrible message
This is consulting - it is about the people
    Hemorraging people

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Focus on the people going forward. Very few people are on board with the strategy. Treat people right - you have not for a long time now. Make an acquisition and quit messing around - if your strategy is to be a $1B company then do it & quit pretending.

    I worked at Hitachi Consulting

    Pros

Most of my peers were competent and friendly people and they made every day work enjoyable.

    Cons

The org change has dealt some body blows to morale and turnover has skyrocketed. Despite the incredible talent the firm employed its been bleeding a lot of these very people that made HC a fun place to work. Now to right side the pyramid they're stuffing the ranks with people who don't quite measure up to the old standards.

Having to bring my laptop when on vacation was a real downer. Seriously, what kind of place makes people work on their time off? Is this any way to respect and show appreciation to the people in the trenches and billing the clients? It was unbelievable how I had to burn the midnight oil after a great day on the slopes.

The pay is pretty offensive compared to the market. Former co-workers leaving for industry and consulting jobs elsewhere are seeing 20-40% increases in pay. That's how badly HC pays their people and no wonder they are leaving in packs. One leaves and s/he takes a few more a month or two later! The company is truly reaping what it sows now.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Pay your people a salary that beats the market. You need to improve the firm's unquestionable reputation on the street for poor compensation and benefits. Do whatever it takes to retain the talent you still have because the list of stellar talent that left for better opportunities is growing quickly.

Worst Company Ever - Avoid At All Costs

    I worked at Hitachi Consulting

    Pros

Worked beside good and smart people on relevant technologies. Given vacation between Christmas and New Year's. Unfortunately can't say much other than that.

    Cons

Horrible hours. Lack of respect from incompetent management, was harassed on multiple occasions. No promotions. No raises. Forced to miss numerous trainings. Forced to miss annual holiday party, no substitute ever brought up. Got stiffed on my vacation balance payout by 21 hours or roughly 1k gross.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Respect the people who are doing the work, give recognition where it's deserved. Leading by example can be a good thing, if one is expecting weekend work and long hours, perhaps you should do so as well.

Hitachi Consulting is the worst consulting company this 30 year industry veteran has ever seen. AVOID AT ALL COSTS!

I have been working at Hitachi Consulting

    Pros

Hitachi Consulting is one of the worst consulting companies I have ever experienced. I have been working in the industry for over 30 years and the Hitachi Consulting leadership is some of the worst I have ever experienced. The morale at Hitachi Consulting is the lowest I have ever experienced. There is a massive gap between those favorites of the leadership team and the rest of the company. The region with the favorites are always promoted and the others are left to earn money and feed the salaries of those in the good ole boys club.

    Cons

The leadership has no concept of how to create a team environment. Favoritism is rampant throughout the company with promotions based on personal relationships.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Promote based on metrics and stop the discrimination, favoritism, and blatant disregard for actual abilities.

I have been working at Hitachi Consulting

    Pros

good place to start if you're coming out fo college but not for Sr Consultant. They have a nice benefits package, which is good for those that need it. Great Health benefits.

    Cons

poor managment, poor communication, impossible to get people to do their jobs correctly. The management and recruiting team is not technical even close to enough to understand their own consultants and clients' needs. They don't review their consultants skill sets to better place them for growth of the company or growth of the consultant. Efforts should be taken from the top down to reduce turnover and keep consultants on staff that actually know their skill sets not fake them.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

communicate better and base reviews and promotions on skill set and performance not time spent in a position.

    I worked at Hitachi Consulting

    Pros

To start a career, its OK place - the pay is very less.
As an experienced professional - AVOID !!! You will not go anywhere within the firm...!

    Cons

    - Way behind in technology skills compared to its peers.
    - Junior level employees at all levels work in this company.
    - Most of the employees are fresh out of college
    - Not so much to learn from the company.
    -Avoid for professionals.
    -Conflicting messages from senior management.
-impossible to change the service line.
-Pay does not equate to the amount of work you actually do. No overtime. Bonuses are minimum.
-Your project is only one of the many things you'll be working on at any given time.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    - Be rational to every employee.
    - Treat Senior employees with respect, and value their opinions, instead of feeling threatened by them !!!
-Compensation needs to be higher considering the amount of work the employees put in on a weekly basis.

I worked at Hitachi Consulting full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Low expectations of employees. Wide range of projects and technologies. Decent opportunities to training.

    Cons

Just not a compelling or interesting place to work. A lot of "old school" VPs who are not interested in creative ideas; only in making their numbers. Hitachi is still focused on ERP which is a dying service. There are very few projects which are interesting and even fewer people that know how to sell them.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Implement a "no jerk" policy.

I have been working at Hitachi Consulting as a contractor (more than an year)

    Pros

You learn to dress up, send important looking reports (even if useless) every other day.

    Cons

Very stratified, they take 75% of bill rate and only pass 25% to consultants. They try to be like Accenture but on the cheap so for this 75% margin consultants get terrible benefits and a lot of beauracracy.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Consultants are the ones making you the money. Your exploitation of them won't win you good will or last forever.
