    Hitachi Consulting a great place to build a career

    ProsCompany is serious about personal development and training, strong training program which is unusual for a consulting firm today
    Business is growing which means more opportunity for career development

    ConsCompany is experiencing organic growth this year and resources are highly utilized right now which is great but need to hire more people in select areas soon or run the risk of burn-out

    Advice to Senior ManagementConsulting core needs to get more integrated into the practice areas
    Company is very community oriented but needs to do a better job of communicating externally about all of the great things we do in our local communities

    Fantastic place to start a career, but not the right place for me to grow

    ProsThe people when I started were excellent - I admired the leaders and my peers from my local office. I worked here directly out of undergrad and was given great opportunities to work in different industries and in different functional areas. Better work life balance than most consultancies

    ConsExperiences and expectations differ widely by which office you are in and what your background is. Pay increase is slow until you are eligible for performance compensation. Leadership at the company level (not the office-level) is disconnected.

    Advice to Senior ManagementHiring definitely needs improvement - the consultants hired out of undergrad are the most talented people at the company, and I often felt like I was picking up slack for poor MBA and experienced hires (who were brought in at a higher salary level than I ever attained).

    Lacking Leadership, Horrible Pay, Zero Merit Based Recognition

    Lots of training opportunities
    Nice people to work with

    ConsCEO and executives are out of touch
    Employee recognition programs are insulting
    Incentive compensation does not exist
    Salary is terrible
    No Bonuses
    Too much overhead
    Team culture has evaporated
    Too cheap to splurge on employees
    Staff augmentation projects
    Limited opportunities

    Advice to Senior ManagementGet with the times. Completely overhaul compensation and recognition programs. Get rid of the people who are coasting. Reward the employees who deserve it - not the ones who have been there a long time.

    great potential - poor leadership so far

    Great People, Low Pay

    ProsThe people are great at all levels.
    Local VP team has strong vision and commitment to the team.
    Lots of Training and Development

    ConsVery confusing national model reorg being deployed by Senior Execs.
    Pay is terrible compared to the competition
    Almost all work is at Microsoft in Seattle

    Advice to Senior ManagementThere has been very poor communication around the reorg and national model. Many people came to Hitachi to not have to travel each week so we feel cheated.

    Pay is not in alignment with competition and we are losing a lot of good people

    I'm truly worried about our long-term viability in Seattle

    Wonderful people, not so wonderful comp

    Pros- Great people - smart, fun, easy to work with
    - Strong emphasis on culture
    - Interesting opportunities and clients
    - Very open about feedback and growth
    - Structured career development program
    I absolutely love the people I work with. They are intelligent, driven and really fun! It makes a hard job easier knowing that I'm coming in to work with this team. They have been great about giving time off for personal stuff - dr appts, etc.

    Cons- Comp comp comp. No raise for 2.5 years... come on
    - Sick days included as your vacation days boo
    - A little hard to know where you fit sometimes in terms of solutions & functions

    Advice to Senior ManagementPay your people well. If you can afford to make acquisitions & hire that many new Cs & SCs, then you should be able to compensate the people that you already have, and that have supported the company through some tough times. We all took one for the team (no raises) and now you need to show us we're appreciated members of the team.

    ProsGreat PNW Leadership, Develop skills, Interesting work

    ConsLoss of local profit center model means more potential for travel
    Salary level is low and very small if any bonus
    People are not leveled correctly

    Advice to Senior ManagementMove away from increased travel, as the economy improves all top talent recruited on the basis of "local consulting" will leave for higher pay or no travel. Many of us accepted low salaries and less benefits with the idea we would be local and have a better work life balance.

    Good place to work to gain experience, but after that it's time to move on!

    Several managers who should not be managing people

    Advice to Senior ManagementEnsure that the people who are managing should actually be managing people. Some may have a lot of knowledge or experience in a certain area, but that doesn't mean they should be managing people. May want to first work on a getting out of this rough economy before your try to start to reorg. Pay more for you employees and less on acquisitions
