    Pros

Great company culture where management really cared about it's employees. The company stresses on safety issues and there are unlimited sick days. The hours aren't demanding and you can leave at a reasonable time if your work is done.

    Cons

The cement industry is one that is dry and can be boring at times. The communicate was also brutal if you did not live close since it's near I-93.

I worked at Holcim (US) full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Ability to work with atonomy and not micro managed. Salaries were competitve with the market. Employees at all levels were pleasant and enjoyable to work with. Prior to the recession, plenty of opportunity for advancement.

    Cons

Lots of favortism within the Hispanic/Latino group. They would break the hiring rules and just put their people in key roles without going through the proper channels and interviewing processes. They placed their 'friends" where they wanted them regardless of other qualified employees. I would consider management / leadership at all levels very cliquish and if you weren't in the "right group" you were not going to advance within the company. Also, company would stop employees from advancing because they wanted them to stay where they were and ultimately lost those employees because they stiffled their advancement.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Follow the policies and procedures across the board; be consistent. If it applies to one person then it applies to everyone equally and fairly. Don't discriminate based on race or friendships. Be fair and listen to everyone even if you don't think it's important or you don't think you have time for it. Make time for all employees. Also allow the culture to be fun and friendly so people enjoy coming to work everyday.
