Former Employee – worked at Holiday Companies
Pros – Great working environment, Many opportunities to advance. The company is full of great people and helping other employees and other stores is expected. Teamwork between stores in a district helps store managers do a great job and helps cover the small mistakes we all make. Product is often transfered between stores, employees help out at other stores when there is a need. Managers talk out problems and ideas with each other. Learning far more than they would by keeping their thoughts to themselves.
Cons – Hours worked requirements for managers are higher than optimal, but not out of the ordinary for the industry.
Advice to Senior Management – A little less concentration on number of hours and more on results would be beneficial.

Current Employee – been working at Holiday Companies part-time
Pros – Co-workers are friendly at my store, flexibility of scheduling is outstanding, and conversing with customers can be pleasant, especially the daily returning customers. A great way to know a community.
Cons – Gas station customers can be jerks. Many impatient, demanding customers come in and out our doors, expecting the world from us simple associates. But, we just have to grin and get to the next customer.
Advice to Senior Management – Put yourself in the shoes of the part-time associate sometimes.

Current Employee – been working at Holiday Companies full-time for more than 3 years
Pros – Laid back work environment
Great support for problem solving
Rewards those that work hard and show initiative
Cons – Retail hours
Having to babysit low end retail employees
Retail pay
Advice to Senior Management – Don't rely on hierarchy to find employees suited for advancement. Sometimes managers would rather hold on to good employees to benefit themselves and don't care to see others advance. That brings down morale.

Current Employee – been working at Holiday Companies
Pros – Working for Holiday as a part-time associate offers flexible hours and good employee discounts on merchandise and fuel. Holiday also offers a scholarship program for students.
Cons – Holiday under pays their employees terribly. After having worked at three different stores for three different managers and continuously being praised for the work I have done and loyalty I have shown by all three managers, I would and do expect to be paid more. I am to be promoted to assistant manager in a week. Management refuses to discuss wages and insists on keeping secrets as to which store I'm going to be working at in the near future. After three years of loyal service to this company, I feel I'm going to be laughed at when I ask for $10.50 per hour.
Advice to Senior Management – My advice to Holiday management would be to be honest with your employees. Be blunt about things. Secrets make everyone feel on edge. Reward those employees who have proven themselves. Don't limit a yearly pay raise to $0.25. That is, honestly, a slap in the face. (If I was to stay a sales associate, it would have taken me 8 years to get to $10/hour!) Give everyone raises when starting wage goes up. When I started at Holiday, I was working for $7/hour. The Holidays in my area now start at $7.75. So, with my 3 years of experience, I am only making a quarter more per hour than a bum that we hired off the street that will last maybe 3 months?
All I am is asking of the management at Holiday Companies is the be fair. And reward those who deserve it. Or else you may end up losing your valued employees.
