I have been working at HollyFrontier Corporation

    Pros

Great environment, hard workers, and opportunity for growth

    Cons

Work/Life balance is off, need to consider telecommuting.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Consider that one can work out of office, thus adding flexibility to those that have to be home sometimes with a sick child, rather then have to use a vacation day.

I worked at HollyFrontier Corporation full-time (less than an year)

    Pros

I had a good experience with the company throughout my stay and my supervisor was a very nice man.

    Cons

Some racism employees are plenty and they displace it to your face. I have to stand my ground and let them know I will not take it from them otherwise I will report to management. Too many white folks working there and few minority. We are 45 employees in my control room and only two of us are people of color. The rest are whites.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Try to employ more minorities in your company.

I have been working at HollyFrontier Corporation full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

    -hourly pay and yearly raises
    -great insurance plan
    -very secure job
    -6% 401k match + additional 3% thrift plan contribution
    -easy work

    Cons

-management doesn't listen to employees much
-safety is definitely not put before production
-favoritism. advancement and hiring comes first to relatives, not qualified individuals

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Listen more to employees before designing equipment and making procedure changes. They are the ones who run the process every day and might be able to make the design more user friendly. You sit in an office, we make this place work. Let us have some say in ways to improve the process.

I have been working at HollyFrontier Corporation full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Pay, job stability due to the nature of the industry, benefits, work with nice ppl. Good bonuses. Clean office.

    Cons

Overworked, you are an "hourly" employee but you cant collect overtime when it is worked, culture is very serious- no joking around its a rather miserable enviornment. Old school approach to things, overly "professional". I wouldnt recommend to a friend because I wouldnt want them to be as stressed out as I was. Very demanding job, cant take a lunch break because it will put you behind and you wont be able to leave on time.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Smile-tell a joke you only live once. Give praise to employees, under staffed. Let employees leave an hour or two early if they have a dr app- dont make them use a vacation day... Coordinate out of work outings to boost morale, be appreciative just because you put in 50 hour weeks doesnt mean others should...

I have been working at HollyFrontier Corporation as a contractor (more than an year)

    Pros

Fun place to work with an endless amount of learning potential. People in leadership roles are very knowledgable and always more than happy to give guidance and input. There are many different departments and many locations, so there is more than enough potential to expand and move up if you're willing to put in the work. There are also many "as is" positions if that's more your thing as well.

    Cons

They have a "contract employee" trial period for most of the positions which can last anywhere from a year to up to 5 years. During that time you do not receive any of their benefits, raises or bonuses even though you receive the company emails every time a bonus or raise is given out with the dollar amount included. This is something that I feel decreases moral. You are also made aware of the fact that you are a contract employee on a regular basis, even if you're not a traditional contract employee (someone from another company coming in to repair something for example), when in fact you work for them, you have a position with them and you go to work for them every day.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Offer and make mandatory communication and management exercises to those who are put in positions that require them to communicate and delegate to other employees, and they are not actual managers or in lead positions. Having workshops and requiring readings from books such as "Fish" and "Carrot Sticks" or management modules, I feel would really benefit the overall environment.
