Not surprised they are out of business...

    Customer Service (Former Employee)
    Irvine, CA

ProsFree rentals and availability before release dates. Flexible schedule. "Opportunities" for advancement supposedly. Nice customers. Some fellow hard workers were enjoyable to work with.

ConsOverlooked for promotions despite being a hard worker. Poor company moral. Under paid wages. Lazy and incompetent management. Little appreciation for valuable employees.

Advice to Senior ManagementCare more about your hard working employees and promote based on merit.

A mixed bag, but I miss 'em

    Shift Leader (Former Employee)

Proscool co-workers, fun clientele, nice fringe benefits like free movies

ConsNo real benefits for people over 20, cruel and anal upper management, low LOW pay

Advice to Senior ManagementTry not to go out of business next time? :P Or, I guess, don't treat loyal employees like thieves on the occasion they don't follow policy unless the actual INTENT was to steal? I have no idea why you were so awful to so MANY employees who did nothing wrong but to cross a seemingly senseless rule (e.g. firing a guy for buying soda on a single shift when said shift was 8 hours!), especially when said rule wasn't enforced at all locations.

My local store's manager Laura P. actually got it and was awesome. A way cool lady I learned a lot from. I wish they'd listened to folk like her more -- maybe then they'd still be around.

Painful, when my store closed down.

ConsBad district managed coupled with bad decisions led to the downfall of the entire company.

    Sales Sales Sales

    Assistant Store Manager (Former Employee)
    Boston, MA

ProsI got out of there. On a serious note I got to work with some amazing people. There were (at the time) a lot of stores so when I moved to Boston, I could find a store.

ConsThey closed, so I helped with the fire sale to get rid of everything, then the next store I was in closed. Each time another store closed I got a lateral promotion (promotion because I would get more hours, lateral because my pay and responsibilities would stay the same).

Advice to Senior ManagementTrust that your employees want to make the store a better place. Treat employees well and give them the room to make the store better. and good job on getting rid of the purple shirts.

It had great perks but the room for growth was stunted

    Guest Service Representative (Former Employee)
    Chico, CA

ProsFree movie rentals, talking about movies you love to customers. Working with fun people that had the same interests with you was great.

ConsI didn't like that I had no room for growth in pay rate and that of course it closed down only after a year of working there. Did not like the push for selling rental programs either.
