I have been working at Holt CAT full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Great benefits and work-life balance. Strong values and vision that resonates throughout the organization.

    Cons

Growth opportunity is very limited. They used to encourage retention by promoting from within, even on the higher positions. Now they are opening many new locations but hiring more externally than internally. Many times a candidate seems to be chosen before the interviews even take place.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

If you choose an external candidate over an internal candidate, do not have the internal candidate that you felt was not qualified for the position train the external candidate for that position. Not only does it burn out the internal candidate who you chose not to promote, the other employees who see this occur feel that the company does not actually care about its people.

    Pros

Profit sharing, job training, well organized

    Cons

    Extended hours, somewhat stressful environment

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Continue training, and attention to technology/green advancements, allowing for both mining and construction advancements, especially prefabs/ Profit sharing and work/life balance is definitely your biggest draw, along with low employee turnover

    I worked at Holt CAT

    Pros

Holt is the place to work in Texas. They have great values and stretch all the way across Texas. I worked in Austin, Fort Worth, and Corpus Christi. A good place to move up and work hard. Just had a bunch of layoffs recently, but should be hiring people real soon.

    Cons

I quit because of conflict with other employees. Because a lot of management was laid off, there was no one to handle the work environment.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Dont hire managers that aren't qualified

    I worked at Holt CAT

    Pros

Very giving owner...generous with the benefits. Company very supportive of many causes. Great people to work with. Offer many classes that are taught on site to by Holt Developmental Services.

    Cons

Management runs the company into the ground with over spending, therefore many have been laid off. Men tend to be threatened by Women who work there if they know a little more than they do. Filthy language from certain managers and supervisors and if you report it to HR you might as well plain on not being there much longer.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

If I thought Peter Holt actually knew of the behavior of some of his management & supervisors I would probably be very disappointed, but I feel that he probably doesn't. With that being said...I think a majority of management needs to suck it up and realize they are no better than the rest of the employees and give them some credit where credit is due for once.

    I worked at Holt CAT

    Pros

Company pays good wages and has decent benefits.

    Cons

They seem to favor original Holt employees over the original Darr employess. Darr management treated everyone much better than the Holt managment team does.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Have more respect for your employees.
