Pros
One of the best reasons to work at Home Depot Canada is the flexibility of your schedule if you are a student. Employees who are students are able to manage time at school and at work which based on my personall experience is great. Secondly, home depot offers a tuition reimbursement. You would qualify for this, if you have been employed with the company for at least 6 months. Third, home depot offers some benefits to part time employees such as health and dental as well as profit sharing plan benefits.
Cons
Senoir management has favoritism with some employees. There are certain employees who would call in sick all the time without being sick becuase of pictures posted on social networks, they dont do their work properly, they are late from breaks, etc. all these issues are addressed to management but management dont do anything becuase they are manipulated by those employees.
Advice to Senior Management
They need to be fair with everybody. they should get rid of people who dont do their work as supposed to, they should get rid of people who are disrespecful to supervisors and finally, enforce every little piece of the code of conduct.

Advice to Senior Management

Pros
Good benefits, generally good sense of camaraderie with other employees, clean safe working conditions, expectations regarding job performance clearly spelled out
Cons
pay scale on the low side, unpredictable and often arbitrarily scheduled hours, store "culture" often mis-represented and often changing to reflect current management thinking, main focus bottom line oriented without regard to employee morale
Advice to Senior Management
Be more aware that most employees, while being loyal and committed to doing a good job, also have a family that is just as important to them.
Pros
If you can get into the postion at appropriate wage the benefits are good and take alot of extra finanical burden off you. You can meet some really great people while working there and make some long term friendships.
Cons
Working the shifts can effect your family life speacially if your a single parent as they don't take the need to be home a certain amount of evenings and you are expected to work most weekends. The raises are very low.
Advice to Senior Management
Need to make it easier for single parents to work and spend time with their kids not making them spend more time with care givers then parent as off time is while they are at school. Allowing arrangements to attend children special programs at school.
Pros
Great team work from most associates which is very important. Good benefits. Most ASM's great to converse with over concerns.
Cons
Unfair and unequal treatment of associates. Hard work, and a strong work ethic gets you no where. Severe lack of communication between management causing major confusion for associates that care. Constant complaining from DS and finger pointing without proof snd at the same time no recognition of jobs well done. They only bring up what we are doing wrong and don't recognise how it effects the few who still care. Great associates leaving or looking elsewhere due to very low moral and fed up with lack of support. Impossible to juggle home life with family due to short notice scheduling and only part time hours. No full time which cause mass confusion for customer and staff as too many associates constantly changing shifts.
Advice to Senior Management
Very common theme in all posts, very poor communication to assosciates. One group of ASM's allow associates to make judgement calls regarding clearance pricing but other half critizises and reprimands if an asociate follows direction from one side. Quality of product dropping quickly causing customers to look elsewhere. Very poor organization between MET, Fullfilment and associates. Severely understaffed in some departments making it imposible to follow schedules for breaks. Lately the feeling of valid employee is gone and now I am just an expendable number. Very sad to see as i really did care about my job.
Pros
Great benefits, flexible schedules...good for students or retirees. I was able to attend classes which, as part of their benefits, was reimbursed 50%
Cons
If you are good at your position it's difficult to move up. They tend to keep people in positions that are high performers.
Advice to Senior Management
Succession planning, increased communication, focus on growth and development of teams, more recognition for meaningful work, in addition to getting to know your people.
Pros
Benefits were better than average for a private company. The people that are on the floor are what makes this company tick.
Cons
The core values of the company have been sliding for the last few years. It seems that shareholder value has become more important than the associates on the floor that drive the business. What was once a great place to work has become mediocre at best.
Advice to Senior Management
The leadership teams at the top need to get out on the floor and slug away for a year to really get a full understanding of the business. Stop throwing away your top talent!!!!!
Pros
- Good compensatio
- Evolving in canada so that gives good opportunity for growth
Cons
- some times there is toomuch politics
Advice to Senior Management
- Try to fit right people in right roles. Some of the poeple are miss fit and not utilised porperly
Pros
I have fun at work and there are a lot of good people.
Cons
Your work hours rotate all of the time.
Advice to Senior Management
Ask who wants to work certain shifts.
