    Terrible Attendance Policy

    Current Employee - Anonymous Employee

I have been working at Home Depot Canada

    Pros

Benefits is about it. HD is just another Wal-Mart.

    Cons

Anythings in regards to treating people like you would want to be treated.Terrible Attendance Policy. They look at a report every six months, then discipline you.....or fire you. You may have been late a couple times 5 months ago, then they write you up. How can anyone dispute what happened 5 months ago? Shouldn't these issues be addressed with-in a week or two?

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Remember how you got here! It was through your people.
Remember how Lowes caught you! You forgot about your people. Mr. Blake, THD is doing it again!

    Night shift

I worked at Home Depot Canada

    Pros

Friendly people, well most the time. The management can play favorites at times and will assign the easiest tasks to those who have seniority.

    Cons

A lot of overtime, with low pay. If you're new, they will assign you to the hardest tasks.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    None

I worked at Home Depot Canada

    Pros

This was a part time time job for me so I didn't take it too seriously. The work schedule was pertty fair and if I needed a day off it was usually accomodated. My Manager was pretty easy going and I felt comfortable talking to him about issues I was facing (other employees, work schedule, tasks, etc).

Having the opportunity to work in different departments and learn new skills and develop knowledge about all the different products was most interesting to me.

Formal and informal staff events were fun even with such a diverse group of people working at the Home Depot.

    Cons

Starting a work shift early in the morning was the one thing I liked the least.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I didn't have much exposure to Senior Management so I can't really comment on this. My direct Manager treated me well.

I have been working at Home Depot Canada

    Pros

The occasional friendly person whom you're able to make their day by helping them.

    Cons

Customers are more often than not rude. Steel-toed shoes while behind the front desk make little sense. Very particular dress code, although SR Mgt does not follow. PT pay does not go up with min. wages.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Favoritism will get you nowhere.

    Pros

There is outstanding support from the entire team. It is a fun place to work and the people are very friendly.

    Cons

I wish there was a little more time off during weekends to be with my family/

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I think for the amount of work that Department Supervisors do, we should earn more money.

I worked at Home Depot Canada part-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Coworkers are all great people, attentive, and super friendly to engage in conversations with. Management would often reward employees with ice creams on hot days and kept everyone's spirits up to inspire higher sales numbers.

    Cons

It is very exhausting work for the money they pay you. Managers all stress selling credit cards, extended service protection plans, etc and it gets to be a bit over the top as they constantly expect high numbers from you. Customers can also be demanding and they get easily upset at you if you cannot help them (even if you are not in the department and qualified to answer their questions). Advancement for career goals is hard to obtain unless you are butt kissing up to the managers.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Pay your employees more. At the end of every night you guys go over how much the store has made and based on those numbers, you can afford to pay your employees more for the sales we generate for you.
