Home Depot Canada Reviews

Pros
It's a very busy store that keeps you busy and it makes the day go by quickly. The pay is good and the benefits start after 90 days.
Cons
Management does not get enough hours for adequate staffing. There are a lot of part time employees and most have been forced to work another job making their availability difficult. If someone calls in sick it is an absolute nightmare to fill the shift. Often it is impossible to coordinate breaks between the various cash desks. While all that chaos is going on, customers can't find associates in departments so are harassing the cashiers to find someone to help them. Most pages and phone calls/radio calls go unanswered and if they are answered by an associate, they are too busy to help because they have 10 people lined up waiting their turn. The self check out tills are a joke. They are supposed to save time but in reality it takes twice as long for people to get through a line as every second transaction requires some sort of cashier intervention. Not enough staff means wrong pricing on items, incorrect markdowns, no upc's or sku's. Cashiers are then left waiting to to get information on the item resulting in very angry customers. Throw in an employee calling in sick, some glitchy self checkouts, a contractor who thinks he is the next Holmes or Vila (you are supposed to telepathically know that he was coming in and needing personal assistance from the moment he enters the parking lot) and you have a nightmare day and little support. I could go on and on. They just won't add the staff. They are certainly not rocket scientists there. More staff (hours) = happy customers = equal more $$. You have to spend money to make money!!
Advice to Senior Management
Grab some balls and beg for more hours for your stores. Spend a few hours a week actually working the cash desk and see the end result of the lack of staff. Be a punching bag for your entire shift to see what the cashiers go through. And answer your freaking phones!!! Then tell your dept sups to answer theirs!!!
