Former Employee – worked at Home Depot Canada
Pros – This was a part time time job for me so I didn't take it too seriously. The work schedule was pertty fair and if I needed a day off it was usually accomodated. My Manager was pretty easy going and I felt comfortable talking to him about issues I was facing (other employees, work schedule, tasks, etc).
Having the opportunity to work in different departments and learn new skills and develop knowledge about all the different products was most interesting to me.
Formal and informal staff events were fun even with such a diverse group of people working at the Home Depot.
Cons – Starting a work shift early in the morning was the one thing I liked the least.
Advice to Senior Management – I didn't have much exposure to Senior Management so I can't really comment on this. My direct Manager treated me well.
Yes, I would recommend this company to a friend

Current Employee – been working at Home Depot Canada
Pros – The occasional friendly person whom you're able to make their day by helping them.
Cons – Customers are more often than not rude. Steel-toed shoes while behind the front desk make little sense. Very particular dress code, although SR Mgt does not follow. PT pay does not go up with min. wages.
Advice to Senior Management – Favoritism will get you nowhere.

Current Employee – been working at Home Depot Canada part-time for less than a year
Pros – Upbeat, hard working staff. Everyone is always moving and looking for customers or something to do. A lot of fun to work with.
Displays are always outstanding
Store is clean and aisles are always clear
Cons – Confusing store layout
Scheduling is often off, too many ppl at some times and not enough at others
Advice to Senior Management – Trust your employees more. Instead of reprimanding them for being late for lunch twice in a row, try to appreciate that they were probably with a customer and did there best to adhere to the set lunch times as best they could. As long as they are communicating with the floor manager and fellow associates theres no reasons for upper management (whom are rarely on the floor) to get involved

Pros – Never a boring day at the Home Depot. Diverse workforce and diverse customer group. Great opportunity for growth within the organization.

Current Employee – been working at Home Depot Canada part-time for more than 7 years
Pros – The sales people I work with. Everyone needs the job so there is lots of encouragement and help when they can spar it like when your the only one scheduled in the department on a Saturday around 3:30/4pm trying to help 3 customers at once which surprisingly happens a lot even with new people which is sad.
Cons – The new policy put into place saying you MUST HAVE OPEN AVAILABILITY ANY AND ALL WEEKEND'S! they found a legal loop hole saying if there needs as a company change they can override all previous employees contracts and all new employees must adhere to the new policy. Our store lost 40 ppl because they took a bus and couldn't get in on Sat. 6/7am Sun. 7/8am. Ppl took cabs to work when they were scheduled and most department's still only have one employee till 10/11am on weekends.
Advice to Senior Management – Start treating your employees like they matter!! We are the ppl who deal with customers day in and day out. We are who the customers see and if we are too stressed, overworked, or have no real desire to be there other then the pay check how long before the company starts losing customers and contractor's. The stores are given hours based on last years sales and the new scheduling system Fast fills the departments but why do we have extra hours not used?! So the company can save money! In a down economy employees are going to put up with a lot to keep there jobs but howmuch is a costumer going to put up with! That's the only bottom line that matters.

Former Employee – worked at Home Depot Canada part-time for more than a year
Pros – Making contacts in the industry gets you better jobs.
Flexible schedule.
It's easy to steal if you so choose.
Cons – Serving the WORST customers in the world.
Working on grueling concrete will ruin your back and knees.
Incompetent management is hired by politics.
Politics run rampant in store.
You WILL BE LEFT ALONE ALL NIGHT
Poor pay, no bonuses but the manager gets a new truck because of a contest.
You will earn service badges and not get paid.
Paid training gets cancelled, in fact all training does.
Advice to Senior Management – Teach your employees about the items they will be selling. Cut the politics and brown nosing.
