Pros
Value of the brand
Warranties
Customer Service
Credit options
Cons
Zero ("0") work/life balance
Zero ("0") upper-level leadership involvement
Limited product flexibility - always concerned about lawsuits by customers if something is done wrong
"big company" feel - even internally - makes you feel insignificant
Inflexible pricing model
sales and service cultures clash unnecessarily
No room for innovation, improved procedures, "better mousetraps" (consistently beaten back by the ivory tower that is Atlanta hdqtrs)
Advice to Senior Management
Listen to your sales people - they deserve more of a voice
Break down the walls between the Atlanta service culture and the local service culture, and between the consultants and the local service people
I believe that consultants leave RSW not because the job's so hard, but because there are barriers between service delivery and the sales culture that nobody talks about. The rules given to the service staff don't always jibe with the rules given the sales people. It's as if we should all just be glad we have a job...I think it could be a helluva lot better.
Pros
Good people, very willing to help new people
Cons
Very time conscience, very demanding on your tme.
Too many time shift variables.
Pros
While very well compensated, the SM position at Home Depot is quite overwhelming as far as hours and responsibilities. You get to develop people constantly.
Cons
Project of the week, metrics of the week, constantly changing focuses and priorities. You never know if what is important this week will be next week.
Advice to Senior Management
Stop turning people over and burning people out! It's not worth it and you only suffer by means of experience!
Pros
Compensation exceeds average retail establishment compensation.
Cons
Poor communication channels.
Physically strenuous work.
Management less than enthusiastic about helping, motivating, and relating to employees.
Advice to Senior Management
Attempt to utilize different management styles regarding different employees.
Pros
Experience, knowledge growth, room for career growth
Cons
No Overtime. No set schedules, Assist managers only care for themselves and their prospective departments.
Advice to Senior Management
Dont have associates work 1--12 hour shifts and make them cut overtime. Assistant managers are big at undermining supervisor tasks, Store manager in some stores show up bare minimal times.
Pros
Working at Home Depot you get to learn basically hands on, if you're into the trades this is a great place to learn, as we see a very diverse mix of contractors shopping in the stores.
Cons
Home Depot does a bad job of utilizing talent, you will find a person experienced in lumber working in the garden department vice versa, and the pay is not the best in comparison to similar paying jobs.
Advice to Senior Management
Seek the right person for the job, I would say majority of the managers that are promoted are not fit for the positions they are in.
Pros
Not that hard of a job to do
Cons
Only hire part timers
Never want to give full time out to part times would rather hire more part timers
Advice to Senior Management
Instead of hiring more part timers, take care of the people you all ready have employed. They love cutting hours because it one of the few things cost wise they can control.
Pros
