Pros
Good people, very willing to help new people
Cons
Very time conscience, very demanding on your tme.
Too many time shift variables.
Pros
ability to grow within company, part time benefits
Cons
sometimes lack recognition when work is good
Advice to Senior Management
pay attention to what employees ask for
Pros
friendly sales associates, large company, regular pay periods, no supervisiors looking over your shoulder, pretty much able to work at your own pace as long as you have a good work ethic.
Cons
top management in store difficult to contact, in their defense manager that hired me was replaced by new manager during the week I was in Home Depot's training. No and I mean no employee discount to any employees (company Policy). Part time only with no encouragement or benifits broached.
Advice to Senior Management
Management needs to verify, verify, verify when it comes to working with their associates. Don't rush to put young people in store manger positions. Possibly longer terms in dept. supervisory positions ... much longer. By the way pre employment traing was handled great. Management or HR ability to pick up where they left off was terrible.
Pros
They offer really decent hours and it is a better place to work than walmart or Lowes. You can learn a lot working at the store.
Cons
They abuse you often. They like you to work weird shifts. They assign you lots to do and the more you can do the more they make you do. They don't fire people that should be fired.
Advice to Senior Management
Managers should work together. The management staff is decent for a big box store but they don't seem to communicate with each other very well.
Pros
It is a company that is really showing what it is made out of. It has shown that it is determined to be a place that customers can come even in economic hard times to get the things they need. It is a place that you can be proud to work. The Home Depot has really shown that it is willing to take care of its associates by not reducing profit sharing or manager bonuses. We still have matching contributions to 401 k and and they have actually increased the benefits of our homer fund. It really does not get any better than this. Look around and see all the other businesses that have closed. We are going strong.
Cons
Now that we have Frank at the wheel the downsides are minimal.
Advice to Senior Management
Keep on doing what you are doing.
Pros
Salary, stock, 401k and bonuses
Cons
Long hours, Constant uncertainties of what tasks will need to be done today, Not enough Full Time help that can be adjusted to different shifts as needed, not enough staffing to meet customer needs as well as store operations
Advice to Senior Management
More FT vs PT associates. Existing PT associates are mostly locked in to the time frames where we cant get PT associates. Cannot flex associates where we need them since most PTs will not flex since almost all have other jobs or are students with school schedules. Need more hours on the floor if we are to expect our DHs to manage the dept and to do all the ordering; most of the time they are the only associates on the floor in their department providing customer service and cannot do DH taskings except on weekends when we have more staffing but cannot do 'non-customer service' tasks. CAR is broken--still. Takes way too much time to overide CAR inputs by cancelling orders or constantly for 'over-ordered' merchandise where target is set too high, or going in every week to up the quantities to fill the shelves where needed only to find out when order is placed the extra amounts were not allowed for whatever reasons. Need to have store level control of target amounts in CAR to fix issues rather than one-by-one requests for fixes to MST. We are never going to fix the out of stock issue if we are spending all of our labor manually working the ordering process.
Pros
Health benefits for part-time employees. Employment opportunities for retired and semi retired seniors.
Cons
Varied schedules. Hard to have a normal daily routine when you have to be at work at 6 am one day, and then work until 11pm the next day.
Advice to Senior Management
Improve communications. Message may be sent to store managers, and some employees, but not all. Senior management should mandate message postings, or contact employees to see if they are receiving info. A lot of info just doesn't make it down directly to every employee. A far amount passed around by peers, and usually with their own interpretations.
Pros
None, unless you want to be overworked and underpaid and always be put on the defensive.
Cons
Company is still run like it is a mom and pop organization, one woman at the top is making all the decisions and they are not even rationale decisions. She has never worked in the store and wouldn't know how to carry out the orders that she gives to the managers to do. Nor does she have any concern about how the employees are being treated by the other managers.
Advice to Senior Management
Move into the big leagues let Home Depot start making the decisions. Don't let your petty feelings get in the way, run the company like a business not a sorority house.
Pros
I really enjoyed the customer interaction. I felt a sense of pride when assiting the customer to gain knowledge in my area of expertise which was the Lawn & Garden Department.
Cons
F/T employees must be fully flexible and be willing to work any shift on any day. No set hours.
Advice to Senior Management
Respect all employees from the lot attendant to the middle managers.
