I feel that benefits and vacation/ sick days should be available and more work hours.

ProsOne of the best reasons is the flexibility of the schedules, you pretty much make your own schedule to fit your needs. Also, the staff is very respectful and friendly. Anytime you need time off, as long as you ask in advance, you get the time off that you need. Last, but not least, they personally call you and tell you when your client has praised you. They call you to tell you how good you are doing, which makes you strive to become even better at what you do.

ConsThe only downside I have found is that I can not get enough hours. I only work 20-22 hours a week because I cant work overnights or weekends. Which is somewhat my fault, I just feel that they could find me at least one other client during the week.

Advice to Senior ManagementI love how you guys call just to tell me how good I am doing, and give me the feedback from my clients. I wish vacation days/ sick days and benefits were available, and especially more hours, but I am completely satisfied with the staff that I have had contact with and the company as a whole. Thank you for this opportunity.

Depends on what supervisor you are working with

Home Health Aide (Current Employee)
Greeley, CO

I have been working at Home Instead

ProsTaking care of clients in their home and not in a nursing. Most clients are very nice to work for,

ConsI am not getting enough hours at this time. No pay raises.

Advice to Senior ManagementPay raises. Some workers need more training before sending to some clients.

Workers are nice, but the hours are horrible.

Caregiver (Current Employee)
Knoxville, TN

I have been working at Home Instead

ProsFlexibility, The workers are very nice. They are always concerened about how there clients are doing. you dont just sit at one place all day.

ConsDriving your own vehicle everywhere, The pay period(twice a month). Never knowing when your going to get hours. Not knowing where your going day to day. Haveing to report your own hours daily.

Advice to Senior ManagementOffer your employees more benifits eariler on in the position. Offer your employees more hours, and a more stable position. Try to be a little more organized on where your going to send your caregivers, and give a little more detail about the client before just sending us out.

Decent and appropriate assignment with very poor communication and an abusive and disrespectful stance towards its staff

Senior Caregiver (Former Employee)
Northbrook, IL

I worked at Home Instead

ProsGood clients, independence as caregiver. Some client care coordinators are good to work with.

ConsSenior management sets tone which is counterproductive to effective communication and getting job done with support of management. High turnover with office staff.

Advice to Senior ManagementTreat your employees with as much trust, care and respect as you would your clients, and you will have more loyalty and less turnover.

Great opportunity to work with seniors but compensation is very low.

Caregiver (Current Employee)
Orlando, FL

I have been working at Home Instead

ProsWorking with seniors, friendly staff, convenient system for time reporting and receiving pay.

ConsHigh fee paid for background check/digital fingerprinting; no uniforms provided; no benefits; no full-time positions available in the caregiver positions; very limited advancement opportunities. (This is an independently owned and operated franchise). Largely minimum wage job opportunities.

Definately had their favorite caregivers and did not divide the hours fairly.

Caregiver (Current Employee)
Bettendorf, IA

I have been working at Home Instead

ProsThe clients were wonderful and the only reason to go to work!

ConsManagement was not involved with ALL caregivers and did not keep caregivers informed as to what was going on. Schedules were often mixed up and messages were often not forwarded or received.

Advice to Senior ManagementWhat's the point! At meetings, they spot to some and not to others. Obvious that that they favored some over others.

It was a great place to work until they got new management in their Human Resources.

Caregiver/Home Health Aide (Former Employee)
Bradenton, FL

I worked at Home Instead

ProsI enjoyed working with my patients and they enjoyed me. I also liked the hours when I was getting them constantly with out having to call and ask if they had work for me.

ConsWhen they hired in new management and the owner was not handling the employees like she should've. And I constantly had to tell them that I couldn't work certain hours and they still called me to work them and if I didn't except the assignment then they would get very upset at me and use against later down the road. I would never recommend another person to work for them no matter how desperate they were for a job especially dealing with Sarah Otto and Lisa the owner.

Advice to Senior ManagementNeed to know how to run a business better then what they do.

Nice Employer

Caregiver (Current Employee)
Lafayette, CO

I have been working at Home Instead

ProsThey work within your schedule. Responsive to concerns and questions. You can decline assignments if necessary. They offer training and have always been the nicest most polite people to work for.

ConsThe pay starts at $8.50 and goes up to $9.00/hr after 100 hours. So although the work is fairly simple you are still responsible for a human being. The company charges more for a heavier ( i.e household cleaning) day but your pay does not increase for those days.

Advice to Senior ManagementFind a way to pay more. Although most of the work is simple, you are responsible for another human being and that alone should be worth more money.
