I have been working at Homestead Gardens part-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Co workers are great. Staff is a combination of retired personnel and high school, college kids. We all help each other. The staff and the customers make it worth while to work at HG.
The customers are also wonderful. Most of them are so full of compliments that you feel proud to be associated for HG.

    Cons

This is retail, you must work a weekend day. You will work your butt off and for very little pay. You need to watch what you say. There are no raises, no/few promotions.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Although I believe management puts in a lot if time with training and bi-weekly staff meetings, and continuously emphasize customer service. Customer service is the key to their success, but management needs to demonstrate a little respect for their staff.

Mid level management is great, but they are worked harder than any other place I have worked. Once you are promoted to management, your life is not your own.

An atmosphere of fear quells any employee complaints. One negative comment can leave you without a job.

Increase to the minimum wage will severely impact this company.

    Pros

Nice environment, if you like the outdoors it is a nice place, lots of hours.

    Cons

Not enough water breaks during summer so lots of overheating, other employees are rude as well as many customers which was expected.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

They really need to restructure and check up on employees in person to really enforce workplace rules.

    Pros

Employee discount and sales. Company meetings. Look for employees inputs on some topics. Changing work place. Neat place to work.
