    Pros

This position has given me a lot of exposure to the marketing world where I'm able to meet so many in my community.

    Cons

Keeping the rates within a marketable range to fit most budgets.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Ann Arbor franchise- Treats employees very poorly

I worked at Homewatch CareGivers full-time (less than an year)

    Pros

I could pick my schedule. Only for each shift to be rearranged, canceled, switched or removed from my schedule. That was the only "pro". The clients were nice, which had absolutely nothing to do with anything Homewatch did.

    Cons

Availability is expected 24/7. Dozens of times I would have entire weeks' worth of shifts canceled at the last minute, daily, hourly changes. I could not plan anything in my life also, could not hold a second job due to the excessive number of schedule changes. So- there were weeks I couldn't afford gas, food, etc. I could never afford my most basic necessities.
Pay- never was paid the 10.25 they agreed on. Always paid the intro 9.75. I wasn't told the truth.
Benefits- none are offered though you will work full time- sometimes- whatever meets their needs.
BEWARE- the ACA employer mandate is coming, and this place may meet the FTE requirements- they MAY lay people off to avoid giving employees healthcare, or they may be decent and start to offer it. But be careful- until that's implemented, I'd be wary of accepting a job here (well, I would never suggest it, actually!). Home Instead cut all employees' hours to under 30 and I would expect Homewatch to follow. I felt it was really awful that they didn't even offer health insurance.
In sum, this is the worst employment experience I have ever had in 15 years of steady, gainful employment, and I spent more time job searching to get out of here each week than I did actually working for them. I have never been treated more poorly and I have never left a job so quickly.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

The way I was treated was awful and completely different than I had ever been treated anywhere else. A completely different approach is needed by the franchise owner and office staff. Your caregivers can't meet their basic needs as human beings.

    Pros

You have one person to contact if you have questions.

    Cons

Checks are always late and they don't pay well.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Pay more money, give more hours and send checks on time and you won't have such a huge turnover.

I worked at Homewatch CareGivers part-time (less than an year)

    Pros

Flexible scheduling, easy to pick up new cases.

    Cons

Constant text messages begging off duty folks to pick up shifts, have to drive all the way to their office to drop off time sheets. Fairly low pay, was told we would get a raise after 3 months--definitely did not happen. Would not let me discontinue on a case when abuse was reported.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

3 month review, pay increase for certifications, education, etc. Follow up when an aide has suspicions of abuse in the home.

    Pros

I met some awesome elderly people and had a great time working with them!

    Cons

The worst management in the world. They only care about their own job performance and filling positions. They don't care about you or their clients. They just want someone to fill the position and do the bare minimum.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Fire the office staff. They are terrible.

I worked at Homewatch CareGivers part-time (more than an year)

    Pros

    Good training program for employees

    Cons

Hired as a CNA, assignments had little to do with CNA work. Basically you are hired for nothing more than a glorified housekeeper. VERY low pay, on-call 24/7, staff do not care about well-being of employees as long as they have a body to fill the position. I ended up in ICU in the hospital and all they cared about was getting a note faxed in why I could not work. Didn't even ask how I was, just when I could return to work.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Treat employees better and there might not be such a high turn around rate.
