    Pros

I was a summer co-op at Honda, so I'll detail what I can. Most of the people I met there were very friendly people who seemed to work at least diligently and humbly. Overtime offered for the ability to rack up money if that's your thing.

    Cons

I'm a college student so naturally I wasn't a fan of getting up at 4am to drive an hour from Columbus out to the middle of nowhere and having to clock in not 1 second later than 630am. Wait, doesn't anyone like this? I had to go in a lot of Saturdays too. I got the feeling from a lot of the associates that Honda could pretty much drain your life and free time away. Some of the engineers I knew worked 6-7 days a week. For a young person like me about to head out into the career world, this concept was absolutely horrifying. Even some of the other comments here seem to confirm that the Work-Life balance is pretty bad. The only benefit I saw was that all this overtime could mean lots of extra money in your pocket. Unfortunately, that interests me in no way whatsoever. Unsurprisingly, some of the associates subtly hinted that I should see what else is out there.

    Pros

Great pay and benefits. Perfect job- for a while

    Cons

Very tough on your body physically and mentally. They get their 10 -15 years of good work out of you and that is what they are looking for. No way to earn a promotion. Have to be somebody's buddy.

    Advice to Management

Take a look at what is going on around you

Great company overall, but more so for those at the early stages of their career

    Pros

    - Healthcare benefits (no co-pay) - Uniforms (no need to have to pick out something new everyday) - No layoffs in company's history (allowed process associates the option of no pay/no penalty during 2008-2009 recession) - Brand new, clean plant - Great products, you might notice a higher price but the quality is worth every penny

    Cons

-Compensation is low in comparison to rest of automotive industry. Don't expect to come in making more than 55K. They don't pay extra for advanced degrees or certifications - No pictures, drinks, food allowed anywhere. Food is only allowed in cafeteria. - Paid Time Off (PTO) is only 1 day for your first year, it doesn't come until after 90 days. After you get 8 days your next year you can only use 3 single days, after that must be consecutively used, and Friday/Monday doesnt count (because they are considered different weeks). If you need to miss a day cause you are sick, use sick days? Nope, use days from the 8 you have. What if my single days are all used up? Guess you are using 2 days in a row or taking points. One missed day is 2 points, 8 gets you fired. - Titles dont matter, you will be doing projects that have nothing to do with your background. Engineers get moved to be Team Managers (production supervisors) without asking. You can't turn it down because how would that look? Oh yeah, no pay increase it's called job assignment, not promotion.

    Advice to Management

-Don't just listen to associate voice when it is positive - Grow a backbone discipline the ones who need it, who runs the show anyways?

    Pros

Honda quality is among the best in the industry. Room for growth if you are in the good old by club / a brown noser.

    Cons

Got to be a kiss but or a back staber to get a head in the company

    Advice to Management

Fire all the but kissers and promote the people that do there job, and lister to the people on the floor.

    Pros

Descent starting salary, good benefits, consistent salary bump for the first 2 years. Very secure job, no layoffs. Good resume builder for new / young engineers

    Cons

promotions are based on seniority at the lower levels, no reward for job performance. EC promotion is a joke, (paycut) while the work load / expectation increases. Performance reviews are pre-determined before they are even completed, so why bother?

    Advice to Management

Performance review / promotion system needs improved so that associates have clear measurbles based on performance. Just becasue someone received a raise / promotion doesnt mean next years review should go to crap because of it.

I have been working at Honda of America Mfg. full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

-Excellent benefits and pension -Great people -That's about it

    Cons

-Not very innovative -Very conservative -Want to solve complex problems with basic knowledge -Poor communication between American and Japanese staff -No much flexibility on schedule -Promotions are a joke, and pay increase is based on the overtime worked and not on the quality or efficiency of work. -Reviews system is a joke. -Do not value additional or higher education -Wrong people in high or leadership positions -Do not look forward to continue getting promoted

    Advice to Management

Despite the fact that everyone wears the same uniform, it seems to me that the Japanese and American staff do not work together on same plan. Need to improve that.

I have been working at Honda of America Mfg. full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Good pay, great benefits, great place to start your career

    Cons

Little opportunity for advancement. Some abnormal rules for a professional environment (no water at desk, clock in clock out, working on the line as needed...) IF you are able to advance, the increase in pay does not match the increase in workload and responsibility.

    Advice to Management

Find a better way of encouraging professional growth. Pay more for education and recognize addition education in evaluations.
