Get the experience and move on

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)
    Torrance, CA

ProsA lot of dedicated and hardworking people around who are over-qualified and work passionately. Good training facilities that offer excellent learning and certification opportunities to take advantage of.

ConsLots of them, the compensation is well below what most other companies in the area would offer. There are a lot of bad managers and only a hand full of good managers, so make sure if you do your homework. Lastly, its a deadend as there is no scope of growth, so unless you like living in LA this is not the place for you.

Advice to Senior ManagementDave Cote is a great CEO, great to be a shareholder. Not so great as an employee

Corporate culture including management-employees interaction is completely communist style driven.

    Engineering (Current Employee)
    Torrance, CA

ProsThere are no "pro" reasons to work at Honeywell, a company engaged in self-sabotage for the benefit of a communist style elite, committed to maximize their gains at the expense of the company.

ConsThe multi-layered management is heavily trained and structured in a iron-clad reporting network functioning with the same grassroots philosophy as the one perfected by the organized crime organizations. There is a gigantic and impenetrable Iron Curtain between management and employees. There is no one to go to and adddress concerns as an employee, since management/HR are committed to the vow of absolute blind bonding amonst themselves and against the fellow employees. The annual reviews are blatant mockeries. Managers are delivering their "evaluations" based on bogus assessments and claims, knowingly so, affording a sarcastic hideous smile while delivering your "development in place" plan for the next period. No performance review complaint has been ever resolved, indifferent of how strong was the evidence presented to support such claim. Illustrous is the case of an employee reveiving the exceptional assessment "Exceeds Honeywell Standards" from the Program Manager he worked for the entirely complete year, and yet the Manager responsible for this employee's annual performance review, downgraded him to "Below Honeywell Standards", requiring his inductance in a Performance Improvement Plan for the next year. Mind bending!

Advice to Senior ManagementThe company can be turned around and survive, once your employees are not regarded as your enemies or inferior-class beings, and by actively pursuing upward mobility in parallel with the vitally important rotation of management that held on to their seats for more than, say, 10 years. They should change departments and locations and will have to re-prove and re-brand themselves in new environments. It has been historically proven that holding on for too long to a leadership function will only lead to complacency, autocracy, opression and regress. Look what this management style achived in the 50 years of communism in Europe and beyond.

    People and Culture

    Engineer (Current Employee)
    Torrance, CA

ProsThe salary is ok and the location is nice. The hours are flexible and environment is just ok. An ok place to learn something new if you're not a techy.

ConsThe job culture is not good. Too many people are used to doing things a certain way for 20+ years. Most people here do not like newbies and are cautious of anything new and innovative. The company seems that it does not want to invest in its employees or much needed up to date equipment.

Steady job with some advancement oppurtunity

    Engineer II (Current Employee)
    Torrance, CA

ProsEngineering Managers are very helpful and are on your side.

ConsProgram managers will bleed you dry to satisfy their customer and get their bonus - with only very small monetary rewards to you ($100 or $200 bonuses.) They expect you to meet deadlines no matter how many hours it takes on cost-plus, or somehow magically do more work for less money.

Advice to Senior ManagementGive raises in place for performance, not just following set promotion schedules

The Science of Doing It Right!

    Senior Quality Engineer (Current Employee)
    Torrance, CA

    ProsHoneywell Operating System.
They have their process improvement down to a science.
Clean facilities and the work flow is very efficient.
    Great pay and benefits package.

ConsHoneywell originally owned the block at the Torrance location, but sold off some buildings and now their main facility and offices are located behind a storage rental center, so the facility is difficult to locate.

Advice to Senior ManagementKeep doing what you're doing!

    Strong company with good management

    Engineering (Former Employee)
    Torrance, CA

ProsTop level management is very good and has the company positioned well for future success. High reliance on technology and a good place for engineers to work.

ConsWorldwide organization leads to days getting stretched on both sides, but hours tend to be flexible to not lead to too much burn out.

    Terrible Work Culture

Sheet Metal Worker III (Current Employee)
    Torrance, CA

ProsMany of the positions pay well, and the older/experienced employees are very knowledgeable.

ConsToxic work culture. Management does not care for the employees, and the employees do not care for management. It is nearly impossible to get people from multiple departments to work together or to show any sense of teamwork. Standardized tier boards are not correctly standardized. Workflow specialists are in charge of Tier 1 boards, but they are consistently scrutinized by multiple administrators who request differing information and/or organization of the boards. Allocation of "planned" material is changed on a daily bases--meaning that parts that have been set aside for specific jobs will almost always go to other jobs, after a customer complains about not receiving a specified unit on schedule. This leads to planning of parts constantly not mattering. The blue collar workers know that what they will work on will not be what was planned and that management will complain about them not finishing the units they were originally scheduled to work on. Also, HOS (Honeywell Operation System) management does not allow parts to be in the department if they are not currently being used. This leads to jobs that are set up for work the next day, missing when employees come in in the morning and the parts often being lost or allocated to other departments/jobs. Also, new employees are not properly trained on the SAP system, and specific types of jobs, GAMS, PROs, and others, require specific areas of SAP that even experienced employees have not been trained on. Furthermore, all benefits are reducing in quality on an annual bases, while the older employees are being forced out of the company in order to bring in lower paid and contract employees, whom the company does not care about either.

Advice to Senior ManagementAllow some extra parts to be held in the basement / warehouse in order to have the material that is needed to meet your schedules--parts are constantly held at the supplier or go to the shop damaged. This needs to be expected, to a degree, and accounted for. Have a replacement lot for the most often used material. As parts come out, replace them and have a standardized amount in the bin. I don't know what to do about the lack of teamwork between departments or the disassociation that seems to exist between management and employee or between the older and younger employees. Time needs to be set aside for formal SAP training for all new employees and for retraining/additional training for non-typically used areas of SAP & SAP books need to be kept at each workstation for quick reference on typical and non-typical standard work.
