    I have been working at Hong Kong Hospital Authority as a contractor (more than 5 years)

    Pros

    - allows free flow of ideas;
    - provides a pretty free or should say entertaining working environment;
    - have guts to pick up new technologies in the market (comparing with similar size organizations in the city)

    Cons

    - bureaucracy in the management field;
    - a blur guideline on position promotions;
    - complicated working hierarchy which slows down the project's momentum

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    - improve communication between middle and senior management tier;
    - encourage the team to build up an ever-learning culture instead of a bureaucracy culture;
    - establish a clear promotion guideline based on performance instead of working experience or other human factors (simply, be measurable).

    I have been working at Hong Kong Hospital Authority full-time (less than a year)

    Pros

    No overtime, plenty of benefits. Job security is there as well as yearly wage increase subjected to government yearly budget.

    Cons

    Organization is one of the largest employers in Hong Kong thus the organization can be rather overwhelming and bureaucratic

    Recommends
    Positive Outlook

    I worked at Hong Kong Hospital Authority full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

    Good pay in net terms for Hong Kong and abroad. Residency and Specialisation gets better.

    Cons

    Poor innovation, not accepting of Western-Trainees and ideas, ridiculous hours, no recognition of previous specialisation, xenophobic.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    They need to do what is best for HK and its sick population, not what is politically safe. They need to want to innovate.

    Negative Outlook

    I worked at Hong Kong Hospital Authority full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

    Steady job! Very routine and pays a decent but not a high amount of money. It is also a safe job.

    Cons

    1. People who obsess about hierarchy and permission and grade levels.
    2. I don’t pay you to think. This is what a bad manager says when an employee offers an idea he doesn’t like.
    3. Drop everything and DO THIS NOW!Poor managers do it every day, and they never remember the dozen equally critical (at one point in time) priorities they’ve already told you to drop everything else for.
    4. “Stop telling me what I don’t want to hear.”
    5. If you don’t want this job, I’ll find someone who does.
    6. Hiring For Friends, Not Competencies!

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Perhaps one of the first- and most obvious- signs of a bad manager is that the majority of their employees are unhappy!

    I have been working at Hong Kong Hospital Authority

    Pros

    Salary and paid leaves are attractive comparing to similar organizations;
    increment mechanism applies to newly recruits which is still a competitive edge

    Cons

    quite mean in terms of management and HR policies as the number of temporary staff and underpaid staff on basic salary terms only is inconceivably high
