I have been working at Honigman Miller Schwartz and Cohn full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Nice salary, good benefits. Respect for committed and knowledgeable employees.

    Cons

Staff can be very rude unless you have a close personal relationship with them. When people call asking for help, "being nice" is the last thing in their minds.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Encourage employees to have respect for everyone and promote a culture of collegiality.

I have been working at Honigman Miller Schwartz and Cohn full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Good benefits, great Benefits Department. Bonus and increases do not match the expected workload, thus compensation doesn't match and should be more. HR drags their feet and staff feel that they shouldn't even bother contacting HR when there is a problem or potential problem because whatever the situation HRs response time is slow or not at all. Very sad...

    Cons

The expectations of some staff individuals is far greater than others and it seems that annual increases are all the same so the moral has changed in the last 5 years. Some staff members work long hours, they thought it would ultimately pay off with bonus but the rewards are lacking and the work-life balance is unfair. Yet others barely work a full day... awful to see the unfairness.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Management should take a hard look at the dedicated individuals who support the firm and make Honigman ... Honigman. Accountability should be reviewed.

Former Employee - Legal Secretary in Bloomfield Hills, MI

I worked at Honigman Miller Schwartz and Cohn

    Pros

Honigman offers a very competitive salary and benefits package. If you can get a few years in, the experience (for resume purposes) cannot be beat because of the status and size of this firm.

    Cons

Staff is often reminded that they are inferior to the attorneys that work there and verbal abuse and disrespectful or inconsiderate behavior by attorneys is not only tolerated, it is often ignored. Different policies apply to staff and attorneys, some of which cement the undervalued position of the staff.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Be more aware of your staffs' value to your firm and their needs as people. You should be an advocate for all of your employees, not just attorneys. Sure, everyone should be grateful to have a job, but that doesn't mean they should have to tolerate unfair and unsettling working conditions when there are simple and rational solutions to their problems.

    Pros

They're very flexible, compensate you well, and the overall work environment is very satisfactory. The people that work there, at least in my department, are great and easy to get along with.

    Cons

They try to balance work and life, but sometimes we work long, and late, hours.
