    Senior Auditor (Former Employee)
    San Francisco, CA

ProsGreat clients, nice people, great benefits, partners know you and want you to do well.

ConsIt's public accounting so sometimes you are working longer hours during busy season but compared to most larger firms it's not too bad.

Advice to Senior ManagementKeep mentoring staff

Great learning opportunities but too much politics

    Senior Auditor (Former Employee)
    San Francisco, CA

ProsGreat CPE and technical support on accounting and auditing topics
Fast pace - you're not stuck working on 1 section of the BS/IS for weeks or months
Audit and Tax departments are completely segregated

    ConsMajority of clients are NFP
Poor management skills from managers and partners
Job selections, promotions and job evaluations are biased
    Absolutely no work/life balance
Work long hours for low pay
Not enough time to complete audit assignments
    Staff turnover is too high
Too much in-house fighting among colleagues

Advice to Senior ManagementOverall, it was not the greatest experience working at H&S. Management needs to recognize the hard work their employees put in, allow enough time to complete jobs and set aside enough time to finish the backlog of clients on their desks. This is probably unlikely since most of the clients are NFPs and are always seeking to lower the fee which leads to less time to finish the audit.

    Good place to start out

    Senior Auditor (Former Employee)
    San Francisco, CA

ProsInteresting Not for profit client portfolio
Small firm so there are more opportunities to standout if you are a top performer

ConsNot so much of work/life balance
Working a lot to complete various audits at the same time
Staff turnover at each assignment was higher

Advice to Senior ManagementPromote people from within. Also provide feedback more regularly. Establish professional and development goals for employees so they can see and measure their performance

Frustrating experience. Communication from management is limited and expectations are not always based on reality.

    Audit (Former Employee)

    ProsAverage pay and good benefits
    Very friendly clients
Good access to continued education and resources for audit and accounting research and support

Cons-Constantly cutting time budgets and length of time allowed in the field while increasing the amount/quality of work to be performed.
    -No work/life balance
-No clear pathways of communication to resolve issues
-Several managers and partners with a serious deficiency in management / communication skills

Advice to Senior ManagementRespect is a two way street.

No, I would not recommend this company to a friend
