I have been working at Horizon Air full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Great benefits, wonderful people to work with

    Cons

Long, long hours and overnight travel

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

They need to have more reserve flight attendants, expect to be "drafted" and work into your days off.

I worked at Horizon Air part-time for less than a year

    Pros

Free flight benefits for your immediate family. Shifts can be traded between coworkers with ease.

    Cons

Can be very stressful for low pay. The lower you position on the corporate ladder.. the more expendable you are.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Managers who are not willing to assist when work load is heavy or who have no idea of what it takes for their subordinates to complete a task... should not be managers.

I have been working at Horizon Air full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Very friendly employees, flight benefits can be great, small company, performance based pay annual bonus has been healthy

    Cons

Low wages, because small - limited opportunity to advance, can be difficult to enjoy flight benefits

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

The job market is heating up in Seattle, so to keep talented people it will be necessary to have compensation similar to the major employers in the area.

I have been working at Horizon Air full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Union style benefits and pay without having unions (for CSAs)
Management works hard to show appreciation for it's frontline.
Pay is on the high end for job class (CSA)
Advancement opportunities abound within the Alaska Air Group
Horizon believes promotions from within and helps build your career.
The people love their jobs and they spread their love to our customers, who in turn create a positive work environment.
Wonderful performance based incentives and profit sharing.

    Cons

Working on very tight budgets create obstacles in the workplace.
Some positions under paid for job output.
Long hours in rough conditions can be cumbersome for unexpecting new hires.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Make sure your employees know how much you appreciate them.
Be sure to listen to any suggestions and criticism from your frontline, first.

I have been working at Horizon Air full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Most of the people are great to work with. Travel and medical benefits are great with a very flexible schedule if you can get a trade. Bonus pay is great. Job security. As long as you show up on time you will have a job for the most part.

    Cons

As far as the job the pay is really to low for what you do. Raises are based on time served not performance or qualifications. A lot of drama. Management seems to play favorites on stuff. More often then not what they consider proper staffing is under staffed and then people call in sick.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Pay the extra money to put 3-4 more people on staff per AM shift, PM shift, and cross over periods. The on time performance would be better. Less people would have injuries from over working them selves and overall moral would be better from people complaining to each other about being over worked and under paid.

Former Employee - Flight Attendant in Seattle, WA

I worked at Horizon Air full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Many truly dedicated employees, that continue to put the customer first despite upper management's lack of foresight and unwillingness to consider anything but the bottom line.

    Cons

Non-management employees are treated like Kleenex...used up and tossed aside.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

There is too much middle management who, in an effort to keep their jobs, spend all their time "reinventing the wheel". They have cut so many corners they are stuck going in circles.

    Pros

Good Comradrie, decent treatment, overall one of the better "regional" airlines to work for.

    Cons

Low pay, but that is to be expected at the regional level

Current Employee - Crew Scheduler in Portland, OR

I have been working at Horizon Air full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

There seems to be some growth in the company but little to no movement.

    Cons

-Communication is horrible between departments. Management doesn't ask the respective opinions/expertise of departments before implementing changes; Thus resulting in failed projects/
-A company that once felt as though they cared about employees has turned into a company that solely looks at profits without regard to employees quality of life.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Talk to departments before making radical changes. Just because it looks good on paper doesn't mean it will work practically.
