    Pros

Flexibility, autonomy, can make more money doing this than using my master's degree in counseling, get to see most of North America, can take trips most anywhere in the US and Canada.

    Cons

There are really no cons if you don't come into the business blind. You will have truck repairs. There will not always be back hauls. You must provide for your own transportation. None of this should come as a surprise since you are essentially running your own small business. My husband and I are in our 30s and 40s. We do drive-away and tow-away and not only pay our bills but make a GOOD living as well. If you are ignorant and/or lazy, you will NOT enjoy this field. If this pertains to you, go back to school and try politics. HORIZON is a GREAT place to work.

    Advice to Management

Management is great, and really tries to put employees and drivers first.

    Pros

Really there is no Pro's if you are gonna do this job have something else waiting in the wings that way you don't depend on Horizon for anything.

    Cons

Don't work with anyone in the office. The are condescending, unhelpful, and probably won't even return your calls when you have a problem. Unless they want to blame something on you! They will even THREATEN you. Then after your told they will no longer assign loads to you, they send you a letter stating your owe damage money.

    Advice to Management

For a Christian company your are not Christian. Be a real company and treat your people good when someone is Condescending to a new person don't Threaten the new person work with your team to make sure it doesn't happen again. You will run out of people to abuse eventually. Marion Jesus would be shaking his finger at you!

    Pros

The only PRO is that you work for yourself and choose your load

    Cons

Company considers you expendable, easy for them to just hire another Danc'n Chicken. You are responsible for everything, even their mistakes. I had a dispatcher at one of the yards tell me I had all the necessary, required paperwork and PERMITS for a particular trip, turns out that HE was wrong, but I had to pay the fine to the state, Horizons share of the fine and on top of that Horizon fines you for getting the fine. Marion Schrock (Smuck) claims to be a religious man, but lies and talks out of both sides of his mouth. He has a big ego and rides high on what HIS PARENTS built not what he has done. The employees are great people and if you are honest with them , do everything they can to work things in your favor, but the management is THE WORST. You may as well write off your damage deposit, they will be sure to say that someone has put a claim in, even a year down the road, it boils down to the driver being responsible for the delivered unit until it is sold. Pay is not good when you consider all expenses INCLUDING FUEL come out of what they pay you. If you do decide to do this, DO NOT BUY A NEW TRUCK. It is virtually impossible to pay for a new truck with the meager NET salary you earn from this job. The only way you make any money with this job is to keep it on the road 24 / 7 , and run two log books. They are also HEAVY on the DOT fines. Horizon is famous for shorting you on stated trip mileage, always check THEIR STATE TRIP MILES with Google map or map quest. You are paid from zip code to zip code, not address to address, so you will ALWAYS be short a few miles but they have shorted quite a few drivers by 100 miles or so. You should also have a major maintenance funds account set aside to repair the truck. Very easy to put a lot of miles on in a short time and you WILL have repairs, not to mention oil changes every 5,000-7,500 miles, depending on the oil you use and the truck you drive. Most drivers have Dodges or GMC/Chevys, Fords have had more than their share of problems. IF YOU DECIDE TO DO THIS , CHOOSE ANOTHER COMPANY, NOT HORIZON Something to think about. The RV business is artificially propped up buy the unrealistic loans that the banks were pressured into by Warren Buffet, he controls 80+% of the RV manufacturers, when he pulls out, the RV industry will fold like a house of cards

    Advice to Management

You talk a good game but what you actually practice is far from what you preach. Your drivers are honest people for the most part, they can save you more money than you can save, if you treat them with respect. Your petty fines just sours the atmosphere and there is ALWAYS an excuse for it not being Horizons fault., Horizon NEVER takes responsibility for ANYTHING.. Your drivers are your most important asset, it's about time you ACTED like they are important instead of just giving them lip service. Marion, you are a joke as far as your management skills, it is your employees that make your PARENTS company successful, NOT YOU. You should pay attention to what BENNET is doing, which is run by ex-Horizon employees, their drivers have nothing but good things to say about their company, same for Synergy, they like their company.

    Pros

Good place to start, if you can afford it.

    Cons

They are currently trying to stick me with damage to a unit from August of 2013. This unit sat on a lot over a year and no one noticed almost 900 dollars of damage? As a driver you are responsible for units until they are sold; I guess. I know more than a dozen other drivers that have had the same trouble with this issue; most never see the return of their damage deposit. Mine was returned, and I was told I had no outstanding clams in June, and now this. Their own contract states you cannot be liable for damage past twelve months.

    Pros

Good pay on long trips only

    Cons

Will accuse you of damages you did not commit.

    Advice to Management

If you call yourself a christian organization then act like it. If you say you support veterans. Back it up by not terminating them two days after veterans day for damages they didn't cause.

I have been working at Horizon Transport

    Pros

Great position for independent people, You are by yourself, setting your own schedule. No forced dispatch. A lot of positive talk from management.

    Cons

It's feast or famine, with a lot of famine. You are an independent contractor with no benefits. Delivering expensive Motorhomes nationwide. You are paid by the mile and must pay your fuel cost out of this milage rate. It is almost impossible to make a living delivering only new motorhomes out of the Wakarusa yard, so reloads are important. Most people use a tow car to get to the next pickup point. (another big expense) The only way to make it in this business is to do a lot of reloads and to stay out as much as possible. This is no job for someone with a young family... you will never see them.

    Advice to Management

Improve the pay plan. Figure out a way to become more diversified so you are not dependent on the whims and cost cutting measures of 4-5 major RV manufacturers. In 5-7 years their business will be tanking anyway because the US will be out of customers with the disposable income required to purchase these expensive toys. The middle class is dying and won't be back for at least a generation.
